N: Lemons, ginger, banana peel, very fresh, like a just passed thunderstorms sun. You can smell the oak, but it’s like a ghost in the background.
P:Lemon custard, ever so light, creamy,tart, long finish, slight wood. He was really talented.

If served this “ blind”, very few would peg it as a Cali Chard. A stylistic response to criticism of previous, over the top Chards.
With time and air, some flinty mineral goodness appears along with the sensation of citrus pith.

Rosehill Limited Release Hunter Valley Shiraz 2006

See several previous tasting notes for this wine. This was made back in the day when Hunter Valley reds had strayed from their medium bodied, savoury, sweaty saddle origins to being riper and more full bodied like a South Australian Red. This was declared in a speech by Chief Winemaker at the time, Jim Chatto, at a dinner I attended at the winery. Also plenty of oak still evident at 15 years of age. I prefer the original Hunter Valley style which Mount Pleasant has wisely reverted to utilising the wonderful old vine fruit at its disposal. — 3 days ago

High Contrast Vineyard Syrah 2018

This is a great quality Syrah from Washington State. Very stinky, in a good way. I had it blind and called it just by smelling it.

Harsh on the palate with black fruits, oak, spices, vanilla, peppercorn, wet leaves, earth, olives, mushrooms, vegetables, tobacco and espresso.

Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity. Very rich and extracted.

Dry and fruit forward with great complexity.

Took 3 hours to open up, and it may not have been enough time.

Still extremely young and would be better in 5 years. Will age nicely in the next 25 years. A 95+ point wine in 10 years.

I paired it with heavy appetizers.

14.3% alcohol by volume.
