Volnay-Champans 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2011

Decanted for 1.5 hours. It opened up brilliantly. Ruby color with a clear rim and medium viscosity. On the nose it had frank and expressive red fruits, followed by menthol note, rose petals, wet stones and mineral underpinning. You can tell this is a complex and serious wine just by smelling it. On the palate, definitely picking up red fruits, an amazing linear precision and silky mouthfeel on solid tannic structure and a long mineral finish. Dry wine, medium acidity, medium tannins, medium alcohol and medium body. Super delicious and a treat! Domaine Jacques Prieur owns a bit less than 1 acres on the upper slope of the 1er Cru Champans that is one of the larger 1er Cru vineyards in the village of Volnay. Grapes are hand harvested, strictly sorted and destemmed. The must will sit on the skins for 19 days prior to fermentation. The wine ages for a total of 17 months in oak barrels. — 4 days ago

Even after a couple days retains some good verve. Pretty nice and well balanced. Hits every part of the mouth with nothing overwhelming. Good acid, good slightly rich mouthfeel, nice finish (not overly long though). For the price I’ll take it. — 16 days ago

Just a wonderful BB which we could honestly drink everyday if we had enough, prior notes still apply:

Nose has pear juice, ripe yellow apple, lightly oxidized green apple peel, baked phyllo dough, partially aromatic white flowers and damp rocks. I always get a natural wine vibe here, without the vinegar-like profile, but it seems alive!

Palate has baked green and yellow apple pastry, crisp acidity yet dense, candle wax begins on the finish and ends with dry granite. Great balance, very lengthy finish, clean and not cumbersome, superb vintage, long life ahead.
