More like a spiced herbal tea than wine in the glass, the 2020 Il Frappato wafts up with a smoky mix of dusty rose, sage, allspice and crushed ashen stone. This is pure and delicate in feel, with a salty flourish up front that gives way to citrus-tinged wild berries and red plums. It leaves the palate completely refreshed, tapering off with a staining of liquid inner florals and licorice nuances. While I don’t see the 2020 making old bones, it would benefit from a short stay in the cellar to help unlock more of its aromatic profile. It’s an understated beauty. Dark floral most certainly — 9 days ago
Deep Ruby with aromas of ripe red fruits, sweet spice, herbs and earthy notes. On the palate flavors of juicy cherry and red plum with cacao, tobacco and herb spice wrapped in balanced acidity. Fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit, spice and earthy character. Just starting to show well but will age for next 10 years. Nice! — 20 days ago

Delicious and very casual! — 11 days ago
After an encounter during a tasting some 7 years ago, I decided to bury my bottles way back in my cellar.
Today, this is an unusually dark, concentrated and brooding Chianti. Notes of scorched earth, graphite, dark fruit, ink, Aceto Balsamico, dried herbs and Cuban cigars dominante the nose. The palate is extremely well balanced and the finish long and rewarding, while high levels of ripe soft tannines and mellow acidity provide structure.

Popped and poured. The 2019 Occhipinti “Il Frappato” is absolutely lovely right now. Bright, crunchy red and dark fruits with a touch of brettanomyces (but only just), rocky minerals, and some dried herbs for good measure. So fresh! Medium tannin and medium + acid. Finish is long. In a group with a mix of different palates and experience and a large line-up of wines, this was the first bottle emptied. Drink now and over the next 5-7 years. — a month ago
Bright red sparkly wine. Cab character subdued but love the wine — 23 days ago
