R. López de Heredia

Viña Cubillo Crianza Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2010

Founded by Don Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta, a student in the art of wine making. Blend of 65% Tempranillo, 25% Garnacho, 10% Mazuelo and Graciano, aromas of sweet berry fruits and spice notes. On the palate cherry and ripe strawberry flavors with citrus notes, cinnamon spice. Fine smooth tannins, long finish, well balanced, ending with fruit and earthy tones. Nice value. — 10 hours ago

Ridge Vineyards

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2006

From a Ridge mini vertical at a friend’s house. 08, 07, 06. This 06 is by far the most evolved. Nose is sweet with ripe, almost prune-tinged fruit. I hesitate to say prune because it has a bad connotation but this is really good. And at its peak. Lots of sweet, old library notes. Still a lot of tannin, but the flavors are revolved so don’t wait for more tannin to drop. A real pleasure-giver. — 6 days ago

Marqués de Murrieta

Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2010

Dark ruby red. Sharp sour cherry and berry fruit. This is good, but honestly is not as good as the ratings claim it is and certainly not worth the price. — 18 days ago

Mount Eden Vineyards

Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

This is fantastic. Foxy, animal nose of black currant, brambles and quinine. Such pretty aromas. Really light, almost ethereal on the palate. Tart and structured, with delicate tannins brushing the finish, and a wonderful saltiness. Super harmonious. 9.5+ — 15 days ago

Viña Tondonia Rioja Rosé Blend 2010

Vintage 2010 | Not everyone’s friend, a style in it’s own - acquired taste. Very brownish red colour. Expressive smell, overripe pear, starting with high bitters. Old wood, mocca. Beautiful expression and balance, dinnerwine. Great effort. — 3 days ago

Acquired taste, hard to acquire wine!- well done, @Peter van den Besselaar! This used to sell only a few years ago for 25/30$, now it’s close to a 100$, if you can find it in the NY area. Love that wine…

I love this wine, very unique but also pleasurable. I’ve served it to neophytes who love it as well. We are lucky to get a small allocation for around $35/bottle.

Trout Gulch Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

Pale gold. Lemon, minerals, high acidity and bitterness level. Crisp, sinewy wine. Apple skin, green melon, paraffin, freshly cut green herbs. Many users say they find this Chablis-esque, and I can see that.

After a day in the fridge this is slightly richer and less restrained. Very nice wine.. 👍🏻

Mt.Pajaro Vineyard Chenin Blanc 2016

Phenomenal Chenin from Rhys. Medium plus acidity, beeswax, lemon, mandarin orange, green apple, the wine could sit down for another 5-10 years. — 8 days ago

Arey Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

2019 vintage. Bâtard-Montrachet nose, Chablis Grand Cru finish. Thin, watery body and the mid-palate is definitely in a period of transformation but this wine is going (other) places and would love to revisit in a year. Mineral component and acidity are on point currently with that ethereal Santa Cruz Mountains terroir but expecting this wine to fatten up in the next twelve months. Fascinating. This producer is making some palate-challenging chards and pinots along with a solid red blend...all with low case production. This one is all of 130 cases and with a nice price. — 2 days ago

Horseshoe Hillside Pinot Noir 2018

I will give this wine a slight nod over the 2019 and really it is all to do with the one extra year in bottle. Yes these were infants but fascinating to see what these young beauties taste like out of the gate. — 3 days ago
