Medium Dark amber unctiousness. So pleasant; apricot with peach weight decadence meets drizzled caramel and baked apple that brings pine forest fire sharply, hot and precise, before grilled yellow peppers and lava salt unfold to daffodil delicate and ethereal. Nose of golden tears. You drink in acanthus long before your sip; gum Arabic, hot orange honey and graphite. Mocha tobacco, bourbon barrel aged grappa, smoke of charred pit pig fat, roasted Tabasco pepper, and cinnamon oil and green olive grapple over cracked black pepper, anise seed, lavender oil, oregano oil and charred orange peel. Disturbs the mind in its swing from darkness to light, from life to death and finally rebirth. Volcanic and chaotic, but ripe for life and ultimately reverberating in possibility. #nikka #nikkawhisky #nikkapuremalt #taketsuruwhisky #thenikkawhiskydistillingco #whisky #japan #japanesewhisky #nippon #nipponwhisky #masetakataketsuru #yoichi #miyagikyo #whiskey — 6 years ago
Warm vanilla and sherry trifle notes bordering on sponge cake with candied orange peel and cloves, as well as caramel apple, baked pear, baklava and bahri dates in this nose-feast. Hot entry with heavy oak that bites like a thorny rose stem, burnt brittle, toasted black sesame, leather whips, black pepper, vanilla bean, cedar, spicy tobacco with a squirt of grape seed extract, lingers on an wooden point that suggests cypress, but my mind returns to lac and wood stain, if they were edibles. There is also an igneous quality to the whole. The wooden Arrow of rye whiskey: Hot hot hot! #Willet #whiskey #whisky #rye #ryewhiskey #rarewhisky #barrel — 8 years ago
The third of three 21-year-old single malts that we tasted at the December Old Line Scotch Club meeting. This was slightly tangy, smooth and complex. As good as it was, it was the least favorite of the three, by consensus, among the club members. #glenlivet #21 #whisky #singlemalt #oldlinescotchclub #tubbysdiner — 10 years ago
From the November Old Line Scotch Club meeting, this was a good Islay whisky with peat, smoke and brine. Good QPR. #laphroaigquartercask #whisky #oldlinescotchclub — 10 years ago
We tasted this before at the Old Line Scotch Club. As I noted then, it's not my style but it's a nice light, briny whisky. Another budget-priced whisky tasted at the November Old Line Scotch Club. #tomatin #whisky #oldlinescotchclub — 10 years ago
Third in our lineup of Campbelltown whiskeys for the October scotch club meeting. #campbeltown #glenscotiavictoriana #whisky #oldlinescotchclub — 10 years ago
Light golden color reminiscent of apple juice. Warm apples, baked pineapple, grilled lemon, walnut brioche, pine nut, hazelnut, and Bosc pear and vanilla cooking aromas. There is light Spanish cedar trailing. NorCal wildflower honey meets pine nettle and orange peel on the palate. Cedar plank, green peppercorn, currant leaf, lemon zest, grapefruit oils, and flash of cinnamon oil paints a pleasantly complex narrative of autumn comforts and campfire smokes with brittle caramel bits and bee pollen place it squarely in the meadow. Packs a surprise for those who underestimate it based on pale color. No caramel color here, and no dark shadows. Bright, lively, alive. #compassboxgreatkingstreet #compassbox #compassboxwhisky #scotch #blendedscotch #edinburgh #scotchwhisky #whisky #whiskey #artistsblend #johnglaser #nonchillfiltered — 6 years ago
Aromas of gingerbread, apricot, cut red apples, lemon pith, tea biscuit and caramel. What a smooth and amazingly deft whiskey on entry; lifting off the palate like a smoldering Phoenix immolating in slow-mo as it becomes engulfed in various smokes layering endlessly outward in its bourgeoning expansion. It evokes congnac’s finest offerings, showing mixed apple and baked orchard fruits and complex spice and pastries, but cask choices leave no doubt to its whiskey-ness. All the nobility, but with the sinewy strength of a seasoned warrior. #scotch #whiskey #whisky #macallan #No4 #HighlandWhiskey — 8 years ago
Smoky, great nose, a nice wee dram. My second favorite of the three 21-year-Old single malts we tasted at the December meeting of the Old Line Scotch Club. #aberfeldy #21yearold #whisky #singlemalt #oldlinescotchclub #tubbysdiner — 10 years ago
Got this on sale, so it was within the budget for our November Old Line Scotch Club meeting. Smooth, complex and very well balanced. #highlandpark #12year #whisky #oldlinescotchclub — 10 years ago
My favorite from the October scotch club meeting. A special gift direct from Scotland from our host for the evening. #cragganmore #speyside #whisky #oldlinescotchclub — 10 years ago
Caramel, darkest brown rye bread, baked golden apple, ripe green apple and poached Bosc, lemon and orange peel, glistening hemp oils. Lemongrass, spruce, sage and basil, peach blossom, clover and candied violet waft olfactorial. Ethereally nuanced. Snappy ginger and intense lemon oil, peppercorn, ginseng, candied grapefruit ride a fiery wave across the palate. Lanolin and beeswax entertain candied ginger and cinnamon oil. This one rips the thinning veil asunder, releasing the smoky spirits of ancestral resolve; the striving, meticulous, driven and unwavering craft. Impeccable and intense in depth, breadth and expanse.

Ginger, caramel, baked green apple, poached pear, apple blossom, slight iodine, cinnamon, dried pineapple and sage aromas. Prickly entry with pine nettle, candied ginger, lemon oil, pineapple, orange peel, lime pith, cinnamon oil giving a capsaicin bite, oregano, rosemary and clove. Spicy and bold, neat. Chilies, eucalyptus and anise flutter behind. Numby. Nice dodge at the end avoids a medicinally disappointing finish. Good stuff. #rye #whisky #whiskey #ryewhiskey #ryewhisky #CatoctinCreek #catoctincreekroundstonerye #copperpotstill #vawhisky #potstill #singlebarrel — 6 years ago

The second 21-year-Old Single malt that we tasted at the December meeting of the Old Line Scotch Club December meeting. Round and mellow, rich and layered. My favorite of the three. #balvenie #21yearold #portwood #whisky #singlemalt #oldlinescotchclub #tubbysdiner — 10 years ago
Smooth and smoky, from the Isle of Skye. Another one of the whiskies we tasted at the November Old Line Scotch Club meeting. #talisker #tenyear #whisky #oldlinescotchclub — 10 years ago
This was surprisingly subtle and complex. Although not a peaty, smoky style, I really liked this whisky. We tasted this at the November Old Line Scotch Club meeting. #aberlour #12year #whisky #oldlinescotchclub — 10 years ago

Poached pear and candied ginger, cinnamon and cedar, pine, burnt, and smoldering. Apples, orange zest, dried apricot, candied pineapple nose.
Orange oil, cinnamon, caramel, lemongrass, lemon oil and grapefruit conspire on a racy finish that lingers with perfume.
Small production: 1/422 bottles
