Château Palmer

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1983

Slightly lighter garnet core , lighter terracotta rim . Quite muted on the nose , quite herbal and spiced notes, some red plum and floral sous bois , black tea . After a while this opens up slightly , showing a bit more detail , but never jumps out and grabs your attention as other bottles have. On the palate this is better , with the roundness and slightly sweet , red plum , summer fruits , sous bois and lightly herbal , grafite tinged , saline finish of reasonable length . Quite refreshing acidity and suave tannins . On this basis drink now and over the next few years. However , there are better bottles out there . This was disappointing compared with other bottles I’ve had , though the palate was more sound and it wasn’t flawed. A bit of a perplexing bottle. — 6 days ago

I bought a case of this wine on original release, and still have 5-6 left. Last one I opened, with ‘82 Pichon-Lalande and ‘82 Gruaud-Larose, it was CLEAR WOTN, it blew me away, nearly perfect. Of course, as my brother always tells me, there are great wines, but great bottles are never guaranteed!! Cheers!

Great anecdote @Doug Powers and very true. That event of yours must have been a fantastic experience! I have had this Palmer 83 a few times and it normally is a fantastic experience, seductive , aromatic … yesterday , was below par … from a beautiful looking case from an excellent UK cellar … but there you go! Nothing is guaranteed. Hopefully the next bottle will be back to par !

La Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri

Blanco Rioja Viura 2021

Rare wine. Production less then 3000 bottles 9 different grapes. Perfume of south fruits, yellow flowers, bit minerality, eukalyptus…various fruits in general. Bit buttery, midle to low acidity. Really good, my expectations were higher. — 10 days ago

Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2019

Dark ruby red color. Smoky aromas of red berry/cherry fruit, rose petals, exotic spices, garrigue and violets. Plush red cherry fruit on the palate with additional notes of fresh herbs, black licorice, dried mushrooms and earth. Difinitive bit of black pepper spice on the long and lingering finish. Medium-plus body with noticeable (but not overwhelming) tight tannins. 15% Alcohol. Powerful. Probably needs a bit more bottle age, but certainly well crafted. — 10 days ago

Domaine Drouhin

RoseRock Pinot Noir 2023

2023 Rose Rock Pinot Noir from Eloa - Amity Hills , Drouhin Oregon. What a winner this one is. I can drink a whole case of this stuff. It’s absolutely delicious.. The bouquet is like walking through a ripe cherry Orchard. The initial palate is filled with cherries and raspberries. Then comes the hint of smoky charred oak. A slight hint of pepper in the background surrounds a deep velvety texture with no tannic overtones. The finish delivers a red licorice and sweet chocolate covered cherry finale. It is dry but not too dry! This is a fantastic every day every night Pinot Noir with an alcohol percentage of only 14.1 % abv. — 6 days ago

Leeuwin Estate

Art Series Margaret River Chardonnay 2021

Though young and subdued the wine wakes with an hour in a decanter revealing white flower aromas, lemon, apple, subtle oak elements, white peach and light green herbs. Loads of minerality, crisp high acidity and a compact form that only becomes more opulent with time. A terrific wine. — 7 days ago

Château Lascombes

Chevalier de Lascombes Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2022

At the start splash of dark cherries, plums, oranges wrapped into layers of coffee, smoke and leather. The tannins are a bit thick with a bitterness but this works to offset the acidity. — 10 days ago

Domaine Bachelet-Monnot

Chassagne-Montrachet 2022

Much more on the tropical side compared to the Puligny from the same producer and about the same price. 100-120$. Same year and village level. I think this baby fat will go away over time. Otherwise this is flawless. Incredibly well crafted perhaps even too much so. Limes more classic than meyer, touch white peach. I can’t even get my head around the 11 attributes described by a professional of this wine. What is lemon chiffon???? Anyways in the end oh so subtle jasmine perks up. World class really but at a price! In the end i prefer the Puligny. And after this white Burgh splurge might need to go back to my all time favorite white - dry Riesling. — 7 days ago

Lemon chiffon is a light, airy, and moist cake with a distinct lemon flavor, made using a chiffon cake base with added lemon zest and juice.

Antonio Vallana e Figlio

Spanna Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo 2018

Now there’s a bottle where everything went right. Deeply herbal, rhubarb nose. Perfect acidity for ‘Amatriciana. Bright and tangy yet mildly long. I don’t have other vintages to compare with. But thanks Fletcher for this one! — 8 days ago
