A Memorial Day Mixed Case

Memorial Day Weekend has arrived and summer is just around the corner! To celebrate the season, we've put together a mixed case of wines for your holiday BBQ, poolside sipping, and warm weather festivities. Here are twelve bottles to kick back with over the three-day weekend and all summer long, all available on Banquet . SUMMERTIME WHITES As you pull out the summer whites from the bottom of your closet, it's time to stock your cellar with the same color. There's a white wine for every season, but these crisp sips with their zippy citrus flavors and salty bite are perfect for the dog days ahead. Pull out the cooler, and give Soave , Sancerre , and Albariño a shot! ROSÉ ALL DAY All across America, pools are opening their doors this weekend. What better way to sip poolside than with a glass of something pink? No wine screams summer quite like rosé, and few others make it seem so easy to top off an entire bottle. Face it – the color is fun, but the wines are also delightful with their cold berry flavors and subtle herbaceousness. From Provence to California, here are three pink wines to help you rosé all day. BUBBLES GALORE With the weather finally warming up, why not celebrate with something sparkling ? Refreshing and endlessly joyful, you don’t need a special occasion to pop open some fizzy fun. From Champagne to Cava to Prosecco , here are three of our favorite bottles of bubbly. GRILL-READY REDS Hosting a Memorial Day cook-out at your house? You'll need some scrumptious reds to serve alongside those burgers and hot dogs. Whether it be Malbec from Mendoza, Zinfandel from Sonoma, or Syrah from the Northern Rhône, these meaty wines have just the right amount of savoriness to pair well with grilled-fare, without feeling too heavy to enjoy under the hot summer sun.

Mayacamas Vineyards

Napa Valley Late Harvest Zinfandel 1976

An amazing wine list at Gotham Bar and Grill. And then this gem found with the sommelier’s help. Wow! Still has fruit on the first taste. Raisin and wet forest floor. 43 year old Napa wines, that are structured properly from the beginning continue to keep California on the world stage. Amazing finale to a great wine wine evening. The nose does not do the taste justice. — 5 years ago

Arnot-Roberts

Touriga Nacional Rosé 2018

Not totally sure how I feel about this wine. On the one hand it's lovely and pure and clean, with decisive, cleansing minerality that gives focus and drive to its bright, fresh flavors of tangerine, sesame, and sea salt. On the other it's just a little lacking--in structure, in acidity, and in intensity as well. I like it a lot, don't get me wrong. We tasted this wine from tank though and were totally blown away by its symmetry and completeness. Perhaps the filters simply claimed their share. — 6 years ago

Offerus Saint-Joseph Syrah 2015

Leads with smoke and meat. Followed by blackberries, black plums, and black pepper. A slight touch of funk. So f’ing good. — 6 years ago

Domaine Tempier

Bandol Rosé Blend 2017

What better day to open this one up then on Mother’s Day. This has been in the back of my fridge since last August (I swear, I do clean my fridge 🙄) and I think the wait to open was a million times worth it! Orange, cranberry and the weight and roundness that wasn’t there a year ago. Always a winner but I’m glad I actually held onto a bottle for a bit. — 5 years ago

Château Pradeaux

Bandol Mourvedre - Cinsault Rosé Blend 2017

Ripe peach and nectarine, med + body, med - acidity, fairly high alcohol. This is a bigger, richer rosé than I typically prefer, but still excellent — 5 years ago

Jacquesson & Fils

Cuvee 741 Extra Brut Champagne Blend

Very unique selection. When it began to warm up I smelled it again in the glass and immediately thought of a dish I had not too long ago that had coriander & pickled kohlrabi in it; this smelled just like that dish, plus additional notes of lemon zest, bruised pear, pineapple, and a minerality that spoke of crushed river stones sprinkled with mint & rhubarb. Complex and wholly unique. — 5 years ago

@Ryan Vento I enjoy these bottles, but have come to know that patience treats them well. We have a No. 739 in hiding.

Thanks @Jason Brater

@Severn Goodwin I can certainly see that; would love to see what some aging would do to it.

Domaine Vacheron

Les Romains Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2016

The 2016 'Les Romains' is simply gorgeous, as it begins with striking aromatics of wildflowers, honey, lychee and cantaloupe that immediately draw you in. The texture and minerality is simply stunning, as flavors of with tree fruit and citrus oil leave a mark. The oily, unctuous character this possesses is found in very few Sauvignon Blancs. An absolutely brilliant wine from one of the leading producers in the region. Drink 2019-2033- 95 — 6 years ago
