Tu Vin Plus Aux Soirees Cabernet Franc Malbec

Light and chill-able red with some zip! Natty on the nose with a crunchy, spicy, juicy palate. First had it at La Cave Du Cours in Nice. $40 at Grape Witches. — a year ago

Morstein Großes Gewächs Riesling 2014

Gave this 45 min slow ox to really open. On the nose: peach, soft ginger, limestone, orange, just so intensely aromatic. On the palate: fantastic acidity, good salinity, mulberry leaf, limestone, peach...wow, love that density paired with the zip. Another absolutely stunning showing. — 3 years ago

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2018

From mag. Rich and lush. Lost of zesty lemon zip. Slate and stone and a yellow flower floral notes. A hint of marzipan and a saline note. Punchy and dynamic. Surprisingly approachable give it’s age and the format size. delicious — 8 months ago

Bodegas Faustino

Crianza Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2017

Pop and pour through an aerator.

NOSE: cherry cordial, plum…fruit leathers from when I was a kid. Vanilla bean and chocolate. A little clove. Sandalwood. A dash of something tropical…like mango. Interesting.

TASTE: fresh cherry, nice zip of acidity, baking spices, fragrant wood, a little milk chocolate. Finished w/a little cooked meat. Medium weight, a little thin. Probably not worth the price to me - there are other Riojas in the same price range or cheaper that I much prefer - but good. 89.

Riesling on Thanksgiving is turning into a tradition!

Better than previous bottles. Nicely balanced between petrol, sweetness, and acidity. Wine could have used a little more zip, but high quality. Paired well with cheese and shrimp cocktail.

Morlet Family Vineyards

Ma Douce Sonoma County Chardonnay 2016

Every time I have a Morlet Chardonnay, I wonder why I don’t enjoy them more often.

Pop and pour and 100% open for business. It has this unique toasted marshmallow aromatic that I always associate with Marcassin (funny enough, this vineyard isn’t too far from Marcassin in Fort Ross Seaview), along with such sweet, juicy tropical fruit like peach and guava, as well as honey roasted cashews. Up front is seems like it’s going to coat the entire mouth, but it fans out in a really elegant profile (sea salt dusted lemon scone, yellow fruits, honeysuckle) with a nice zip of acidity on the finish. Absolutely delicious right now, and I don’t see this getting much (if any) better.

Domaine A. et P. de Villaine

La Digoine Côte Chalonnaise Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018

Absolutely wonderful wine. Nice one to snag from a recent Manhattan Wine sale. Decanted 3+ hours, surprisingly accessible at this stage. Somewhat reticent on the nose, even after the decant. But so nice on the palate - perfect body, lots of red fruit, crunchy tart cherry, excellent acidity that hits very nicely in the mid to late palate that brings good zip. Tannins are there and ever so slightly chunky but doesn’t get in the way at all. Perfect with some simple roast chicken with mushrooms cooked in the chicken fat and jus. — 3 years ago
