Holy Moses this is the stuff. All kinds of citrus and green walnut notes and whopping mineral assortment on the nose and in the mouth. Intense body and richness layered on electric beams of acid. Lots of dry extract. Whisper of sweetness on the finish. Finish just won’t let up, hangs in your mouth like lemon taffy. This wine is on fire right now; it’s like a world class orchestra that’s just tuned up. — 3 years ago
Today I’m missing the ability to travel to far-flung places or to a local watering hole for that matter.
Intense aromas of dark roast espresso coffee tannins, sandalwood, berries, and cinnamon spice.
Upfront cinnamon and black pepper spice kick, medium body and acidity. Smooth operator with a cool whisper of raspberries and the like culminating in a pleasant clove afterglow.
This is different in a good way. Complex and surprising. Easy drinking, too. Could think of many ways to pair this culinarily and seasonally. From baked lamb to popcorn, to even some rich creamy gelato flavors. — 5 years ago
Had with friends with an orange cake desert and it was perfect. Cognac like aromas and flavors without the alcohol. Candied orange peel with a whisper of saffron. — a year ago
For me, this is fun because of the differences to my usual Napa cab profile. I’m not typically a Washington cab fruit fan due to my own limitations in experience. This is the second Long Shadows that I’ve loved. The other was the 2013.
There has such great balance. It’s velvety smooth and highlights the black raspberry, black cherry, and plum fruit with mocha chocolate. A touch of iodine on the finish with the acidity and whisper of tannins. Finish goes forever. — 3 years ago
This is my second time rating this Quimay so you can tell I’m a fan. Some California Pinot fans will NOT like this if they are expecting a fruit bomb. Being a totally different style, this is high acid Pinot lending to a very refreshing lively wine. Dried unsweetened cherries, pomegranate, a touch of cola, whisper of earth, enveloped in a more back palate dry structure. This is also very different from burgundy’s in that the acidity is higher giving it more of a bright feel with less forest floor & clay. Almost hints of lemon peel hidden on the end. It’s not exactly sour but it’s definitely not fruity or earthy. Very unique. — 5 years ago
A beautiful Rousanne blend with some Marsanne & Viognier from Rasteau.
The nose is amazing - white peach, white flowers, green mango, underripe pineapple. Broad, warm, exotic. There’s a bit of green chilli sharpness. And some warm stones. Just beautiful.
On the palate this has breadth, richness, creaminess but also brilliant freshness!
White peach galore, dried herbs, a chalky, stony undertone, a hint of green chilli spice. A whisper of tannin frame. This has breadth but also amazing depth and great character. Wow. Anything but a fat, bland standard white from the southern Rhône.
A grand wine. And completely unexpected, too! — 2 years ago
2018 vintage. More overt oak notes than one normally encounters with the variety, manifesting as blanched almond, birch, and less-than-effusive fruitiness. Lemon, green and golden apple, green grape, chamomile, almond blossom, green plum, mineral. Good length and the faintest whisper of sweetness. True to type and good entry-level introduction to an historic estate. — 4 years ago
There are few wines that so consistently deliver utter pleasure and deliciousness as this utterly perfect rendition of Trousseau Gris from @jolielaidewines. Pick you hipster wine adjective - smashable, crushable, glou glou - it fits them all. Goes down in a sunbeam of peach and citrus kissed berries with gorgeous floral tones with just a whisper of salinity. Mouthwatering and joyous. Even though I buy this by the case, I never, ever have enough. — 4 years ago
I really like this, which is weird for me because I (whisper) don’t care for Beaujolais. But as a rosé, it is beyond perfect. — 5 years ago

I’m on a roll with Côte de Beaune reds lately! This 13’ Rugiens was absolutely incredible. Still brimming with youthful energy - it demanded patience, taking three hours to unfurl, but when it did, what unfolded was a wine of breathtaking purity, intensity, and drive. Dark cherries layered with musky florals and a whisper of spice mingled with a strikingly mineral core. It grew in stature across the palate, building to a finish that was both super long and fine, leaving a resonant, stony echo. Another profound lesson in weightless intensity! — a month ago
