Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

@"Odedi" comments below are spot on. Gave this bottle 2 hours decant and it was drinking very well. Very approachable, a lighter Napa cab, very well balanced with just ripe dark fruit, medium plush tannins, med acidity. Drinking very well. Really enjoyable. Can’t wait to watch this evolve with many more years left. — 20 days ago

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2017

I have been buying more Bordeaux over the last few years but have resisted opening much of it too early. Still probably too young on this one but can’t wait forever. — a year ago

Tenuta San Guido

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 1999

Jamaica allspice submerged in black cherry, black raisin, African violets, red roses, cooked poppyseed, grilled, wine marinated steak with rosemary garnish. The palate is silky with medium mouthfeel and stealthy tannic hooks are whisked away like burrs and prickles on a satin sock. Sweet Connecticut wrap of tobacco is assisted by a minute mocha and black peppercorn. This took a while to open, surprisingly, but well worth the wait!

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Still packing a tannic punch, fruit is very much in the background. A little disjointed at this point? Will wait a while on my other bottles. This was my favorite vintage at first taste. — 15 days ago

Yes, this is liquid luxury, on a pnp, young, and off vintage (fires). Can’t wait to try one with some years on it. — 3 months ago

I don’t think Ridge has off vintages

Right. Should have wrote “fires vintage.” I was explained the blind block selection process, and truly impressed.

Scarecrow

Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Deep ruby colored. Plum, cassis, red fruit. Full bodied. Tight on the open, aeration required now. But during dinner it kept getting better and better as it opened. First 2017 I’ve tried, I’ll wait several years for the rest. Beautiful long finish and gorgeous mouth feel. Spectacular wine that’ll get even better with time. — 3 years ago

Insignia Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1997

Earthy and not giving away much initially, was worried after 20 mins. By 30 it blossomed, full on cassis and vanilla tannins, undergrowth. Dark red fruit, Rutherford dust. Notwithstanding a Bordeaux vibe there was no mistaking this for anything but a high-end Napa cab. Awesome one at that. I wouldn’t wait much longer… — 2 months ago

Estate Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend

Promising red fruit on the nose but a bit too tannic—decanting was de rigueur. After 45 minutes it was better but still tight. It took a full two hours to open up fully and show interesting notes of tobacco, earth and pencil shavings to balance the fruit and acid. Tells me that I should wait another five years before opening my remaining bottles. Enjoyed the 2021 vintage with prime ribeye cap steak from Costco, chicken liver pate and Taleggio cheese, with visiting family (William, Teresa, Xander and Samantha). — 7 months ago

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

2.5 hour decant (little fine/cloudy sediment). A sensational dark ruby red color. On the nose: beautiful notes of plum, forest floor, vanilla, floral, touch of blueberry, and espresso. Taste: A soft, juicy, silky, structured medium body wine...a classic style for this vintage!...herbs, plum, leather, minerals, and a tobacco cedar medium finish..still firm tannins...wait just a few more years to really come together? — 3 years ago
