Harsh around the edges - but as authentic as it gets for single village Mezcal — 4 days ago
I cannot get enough word play. Especially as it pertains to wine, French Stuff, and outer space. Although I’d like Uranus jokes over UFO ones. That joke wrote itself only because I also adore alliteration. Ahem. Anyway this homage to Chateauneuf de Pape’s refusal to allow UFOs in its terroir (I don’t let them in mine either, honestly) is ever so transparent in what is in it, ever so zing pow wow, but shhhhhh chillout sweet babygirl that I am now a Bonny Doon convert. I wish I could say I was more than a half glass in writing this but you can blame to wordplay/slight tawdry-ness/silliness on...me. And the following tasting notes don’t do anything to actually explain this wine. Less than the prior paragraph anyway. But know it is more than the sum of its parts. But! If you want tech:
Appearance: pale pink. Nose of red fruits of all types, Whole Foods bulk section and a new fountain perhaps in a cheeky avant- garde art garden. Tongue: dry, medium acid, medium alcohol (whoops it’s 13.5!) body is silky and neatly suede-y. You’ll taste bright underripe strawberries, overripe raspberries, maybe an iris or so and something mineral and also green let’s call it pussywillows just to keep me thematically on track. Finish is medium plus with a hint of candied fruit punch. — 20 hours ago
Savory but feminine.
R- pale straw
N- almonds, clean sea spray, gently roasted parsnip/carrot, chamomile/white flowers, nothing overwhelming, it’s very alluring and quiet.
B- awesome salinity, marcona almonds, white tea, yellow apples, mouthwatering acidity, yoghurt (malo with higher natural acidity/tang?), curry and warm spice on the back-palate. Clean, salty, mouthwatering finish.
Non-ouillé (tanks are not topped up, so the wine has some oxidative aromatics, but elevage goes on without flor yeast, so not traditional vin jaune). For the price, this wine overdelivers. — 6 days ago
Awesome gamay. Just the right amount of fruit. — 13 days ago
The 2015 Kapcsandy ‘Grand Vin’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a stunning wine by this storied estate. This wine was aged in 88% new French oak prior to bottling and utilizes a touch of Hungarian oak. The nose imparts creme de cassis, wild blackberry and chocolate aromas. The mouthfeel is simply marvelous and coats the mid-palate. Wild blackberry pie, huckleberry compote, black tea and anise flavors all beautifully combine in the glass. The bright acidity and salinity of the wine impresses as well. A stunner, this beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon will have an exceedingly long life in the cellar. Drink 2019-2040- 97 — 17 days ago
A really good wine. Delicious and refreshing. — a day ago
A very smooth Chinon Cab Franc. A bright pale red in the glass, I was sensing subtle hints of green pepper on the nose with some playful blackberry, cassis and violet on the palate. I enjoyed this wine with a fabulous burger at Toronto’s outstanding Aloette restaurant. How do you say a “magnifique” pairing!? — 15 days ago
