Hahndorf Hill Winery

GRU Adelaide Hills Grüner Veltliner 2019

Served blind by me at Sue Bell’s dinner party with Bruce Redman. After being tricked by Sue all week with blind tastings at the winery I was determined to get square. She was up to the task getting just the state wrong. Once I said Adelaide Hills she knew it was a Gruner. Hahndorf Hill are acknowledged as the best producers of Gruner in Australia. Taking its lead from the GV’s of Austria’s Kamptal region. Grapefruit, Citrus and stone fruit. A multi award winner on the Australian Show circuit. A gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards London 2020. — 15 days ago

@Bob McDonald have only had their Cabernet (which was quite delicious). Will have to find a bottle.

@Simon Gilligan Quite close to a cellar door visit from where you live. Worth the trip to taste all their GVs. I was a bit disappointed with their Blaufrankisch but I don’t have much experience with this varietal.

Grüner Veltliner 2020

This wine revealed some nice secrets. I did not know it had a bit of a fizz - pleasant surprise. I knew it would have a citrus base but did not know there would be a bit of pear and a whisper of yeast. Enjoyed the unexpected! — a month ago

Himmelreich Grüner Veltliner

Kelly liked it as a white option - $10 makes it a real deal - very drinkable. Crisp with a Sauvignon Blanc sort of taste. Citrusy. 1st wine from the Langley Pool wine tasting and the best of the four. — 2 days ago

Ried Seeberg Langenlois Grüner Veltliner 2019

Medium intense, youthful somwhat closed but very concentrated aromas with an unleashes complexity. White pear, yellow peaches, honey dew melon, herbs and a prominent wet stone minerality.
More forward on the palate with a high acidity, medium well integrated alcohol in a medium + full body, plenty of extract and high flavour intensity driven by a tactile and near savoury, salty spine that mingles with ripe but fresh fruit profile with characters of blood orange, pears and white peach. Good fatigue across the mid palate thorugh a solid finish.

Hinter der Burg Federspiel Grüner Veltliner 2019

Unscrew and pour. On the nose: nettle, citrus leaf, limestone, then airy guava. On the palate: cool and airy with good acidty, ok density, and a suggestion of sweet tropical fruit (dilute pineapple?). Clean finish... — 13 days ago

Schenkenbichl Kamptal Reserve Österreich Grüner Veltliner 2016

Another couple of years of bottle time. Aging beautifully, been a few years since the last bottle. Real depth, still bright acidity, great mineral finish. Eyes closed I really would have thought this was a Riesling though. Has that plastic hose aspect that I really like in Riesling, though less oily and brighter. — 10 days ago

Refreshing, crisp, green aroma and initial flavor. Hard to identify tiny the fruit, but maybe a hint of green onion and good amount of acid. Nice with a rich meal — 3 days ago
