Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

This is a really good Cabernet blend. Loads of blackcurrant flavours with eucalyptus and oak. Takes a little time to soften in the decanter, better with some air. Day two it softened even further and really showed nice balance and a little sweetness. Based on other reviews of earlier vintages, I would think this has many more years of life and potential for improvement. — 19 days ago

Mid to deep red. Earthy and plummy on nose and palate. Still a solid core at 14 years of age. Back in those days Mount Pleasant were making riper more South Australian look alikes before returning to a more medium weight traditional Hunter style in the last 10 years. — 14 days ago

Gewürztraminer 2015

Textbook Gewurtztraminer from the unlikely New England area near Tingha, an hour or two’s drive south of the Granite Belt but made by Mike Hayes in the latter. Aromas and flavours of Lychees and Turkish Delight with moderate acid and great length. Was a perfect match with Smoked Cod. I usually have a Pinot Noir with richer fish dishes and I had opened a cracker with the 2009 Bass Phillip Premium as well to compare but the Gewurtz was the better matchup. — 22 days ago

@Ron R This is a rare label Ron. Only discovered it a few years ago when I was judging at the Toowoomba Wine Show. The owner of Toppers Mountain, Mark Kirkby, is purely a grape grower or viticulturist who sends his fruit to Mike Hayes at Symphony Hill at Ballandean who makes the wine for him. Sadly for Toppers Mountain the recent bushfires have scorched his vineyard, cost him about $500K he said with a lot of time and work to recover.

Hey @Bob McDonald, thanks so much for the insights. I hope one day to taste this juice - it reads like a real pleasure to drink. I need to get back to my Aussie wines. It’s more challenging to get the stuff off the beaten track here in the US.


Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2019


Fruity and definitely on the sweet side, almost like a moscato. Very easy drinking. Would be a good substitute for Riesling when pairing with Asian/spicy food. — 7 days ago

Contrary to my last note, this IS my last bottle of 2 dozen. Mid Ruby in colour. Dark ripe cherries with a little pepper on both nose and palate. Can see why this wine has won 13 Trophies on the Australian Show Circuit including 5 at Royal Sydney. Ridiculous value at $22 or less. So easy to drink. Made by French winemaker Celine Rousseau in the cool climate Hilltops District near Young NSW. Wish I had more. — a month ago
