Nicely aromatic with dark plum & cherry, a bit of spice, a whiff of rocky undergrowth.
On the palate this is light footed, with a fruit forward character, a nice tannic frame and fresh acidity. A perfect food wine. Nice depth & great personality.
A very, very nice Lagrein! — 17 days ago
Fruit forward, reasonably strong tannins for a vino rosso and good acidity on the back. Great paired with paremesan infused sausage and gnocchi. Will be perfect for grilled meats this summer. — 9 days ago
The 2020 Pinot Bianco is fresh, with a bouquet of wet stone, savory herbs and dusty yellow flowers. Round and soothing in feel, its pleasant inner sweetness is matched by citrus tones and bright acidity. There’s lovely balance as saline minerals linger long through the finale. $24.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, May 2022) — 4 days ago
Starts off mellow & soft with red berries, a bit of damson plum, a whiff of moss & tree bark, a hint of blood orange. Some cherry appears after a bit of time. Warm, v. pleasant, engaging, with a tiny bit of reduction.
On the palate this is soft, mellow, even a bit plush yet without the weight. In fact, this seems weightless. Some stewed red fruit, the tannins fine, soft, tea like, the cherry acidity balancing nicely. Plus there’s a nice savoury herby note.
With time this gains in complexity and airiness.
A nice Pinot. — 14 days ago
Nicely fruity, with strawberries, light cherries, a hint of straw, undergrowth, a whiff of cream. But also a fresh, cool, mineral undercurrent.
On the palate this is poised, more on the fruity, fleshy side. Brilliantly balanced with fresh juicy acidity and a mineral, herby backbone. Nicely polished tannins, too.
6h decant. Such a delicious PN, not Burgundy but so gooood! — 17 days ago
This one has been a favorite over the past few years, but for some reason this vintage took a couple of days to open up. At first it was rather one-dimensional with lots of sour cherry notes, but tonight it had a lot more depth, with more of the dark fruit flavors coming out. 100% Piculit Neri. 5/14/22. — a month ago

Lots of history to this varietal from this place. It’s not a very common grape. And it’s name checked in the Shakespeare opera ‘Don Giovanni’. Says so on the label. Dark colored grape makes a dark colored wine. Almost black. It’s supposed to smell like violets according to my research. Not sure I know the smell of violets enough to place that. I’d say berry cobbler. And maybe blood orange. Mushrooms? Flavors are dry, simple and elegant. Reminds me of some good Southern Italian stuff I’ve had. Plenty tart. Lower alcohol at 12.5%. This is interesting and strange stuff. Thanks Grocery Outlet for bringing stuff like this to the masses. — 15 days ago
