Dark blackish red that slightly clings to the glass. Black fruit and tobacco on the inviting nose. Full bodied palate gives black cherry, black tea, and cigar box. Fine dusty tannins. Medium acidity. Long, luxurious, black velvet finish. Calls out for grilled or roasted meats. Beef will do, but lamb or game would be sublime. Drink now through 2028 or beyond. — 2 years ago

Angelicall Pinot Noir Rosé 2019

Terrific rose of pinot noir from Maggie Harrison of Antica Terra. This is not your garden-variety rose: serious skin contact time coupled with her incredible wine-making abilities has produced a really substantive wine. Reminds me a bit of Manfred’s SQN roses (not surprising, I guess, since Maggie worked with Manfred for I believe a decade or so before striking out on her own with what I think is the best winery in the Willamette Valley). Do yourself a favor and try to snag some of this. Terrific juice. — a year ago

I am about as big a fan of this rosé as anyone. Regardless of price, I absolutely love it. I know you also enjoy Andremily (as do I)…have you tried their rosé? It’s bigger and more rich in style, akin to SQN rosés, more so than the Angelicall. But, I believe those three rosés belong in a category all to their own!

@Shay A, I have had thd Andremily (only bought 3 - should have gotten more, because these will age for a couple of years. Check out Paix sur Terre’s rose of mourvedre. Lighter style, but Ryan Pease is growing those mourvedre grapes specifically to make rose.

Terra di Lavoro Roccamonfina Aglianico Piedirosso 2015

Southern Italian stunner! My initial thought was “Why do I not drink more Aglianico?” This wax is primarily Aglianico (80%) with Piedirosso (20%) blended in. The nose is herbal and spicy with tobacco and coffee notes. Aromas of ripe blackberry and dark cherry are in the background. The pallet, however, is totally fruit forward. Baked and dried dark fruits fill the mouth with hints tobacco and black tea. Touch of minerals on the long and smooth finish. Opulent and pristine. Beautiful balance of fruit and organics. Currant candies, cherry pie, raspberry jam, rosewood, blood orange and beeswax. Warm and powerful for Willamette. A bit young and taut. Maybe in five years it will show what it can really do — 2 years ago

Monthly WTF group recap. Theme this month was “bring something special”. Normally we taste all of the wines blind, but we decided to do a relaxed night with amazing wines at a great restaurant. Spectacular evening!

What a treat this will be in 10yrs! Very youthful right now. I don’t know how the grapes are used here, but it was reminiscent of whole cluster Pinot. Similarities to the Antica Terra Angelical wine but more spice and denser core. Lifted and energetic profile. Smoked and slightly bloodied with iron and smoky beef jerky. The finish showed tart mulberries and baked black cherries. Oak wasn’t very noticeable. Hold.
