This was firing on all cylinders tonight. Caught at a point v.s. my palate preferences. This still had fruit power but also polished, pleasantly drying tannins. It had a lot of spices braced by just the right amount of sweetness. Truly a joy to drink tonight. — 21 days ago

Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 1991

Very light and classy. Orange peel, roses, plum, tangy violet. Intense but light and a very pure. Long finish. Excellent (bottle pictured from library, not the one I drank) — a day ago

One of my go to producers of Tempranillo. Still a bit early on their 2016, but showed shades of their excellent 2010 I had about 8-9 months ago.

Marqués de Murrieta

Reserva Finca Ygay Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2017

Nice cherry ruby red colour with cherries and red fruit on the nose, silky balance of tannins on palate with minerality leading to a long satisfying finish
Excellent example of good old world wine making

Albahra Garnacha Tintorera 2021

such a cool producer that i’ve been following closely. located in castilla la mancha, albahra (vyd location) means small sea in arabic. it’s in almansa, which means half way of the road: such a perfect name for a region in la mancha. opened with lots of acidity that mellowed out with time and decanting. would absolutely buy again, but would only drink with dinner, not in its own — 3 days ago

Imperial Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2019

Rarely drink rioja but this was nice, especially paired with a large ribeye at a Spanish restaurant. Good fruit and dusty earth, quite round, maybe lacking a bit of acid for my taste but still nice. — 7 days ago
