It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Nice nose of blue and black fruits with light wood, spices, licorice, light earth, vegetables, herbs, tobacco leaf and dark coffee.
Full-bodied with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cherries, light oak, spices, chocolates, licorice, coffee, tobacco leaf, earth and black pepper.
Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins, raspberries and peppercorn.
This 7 year old Merlot from Bordeaux is peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. Complex and interesting.
I had this vintage 3 years ago, and it hasn't changed much, except that the nose has become noticeably prettier.
Needs a couple of hours to open up properly so be patient.
Good by itself and better with food. I paired it with grilled picanha.
A blend of 71% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
90 points.

A delicious left bank Bordeaux which greatly beneifted from a 60+ minute decant. The nose presents fig jam & blueberry along with notes of anise, cocoa, and pencil lead. The palate is impressively well balanced with flavors of blueberry and blackberry along with tertiary notes of sage & leather along with well integrated tannins and a bright acidity. Paired equally well with both filet mignon on day 1 & burgers on day 2! ($33) [5/27/22] — 4 years ago
Blend of about 73% Sauvignon Blanc and 27% Semillon, aged in oak for 8 months. Pale lemon color with aromas of stone and tropical fruits with biscuit and floral notes. On the palate flavors of peach, golden apple and melon with white floral and herb notes. Medium+ finish ending with fruit, herb and yeasty notes, lively acidity with slight smoky mineral character. Small production, nice, good now! — 3 months ago

What a treat opening this 27 year old Napa Valley Spottswoode Cabernet! A deep purple garnet color with some bricking. Nose - dark fruit and wet forest floor initially standout followed by subtle notes of blueberry dark chocolate, fennel and a touch of tobacco & spearmint. Taste - cherry and dark plum stand out giving it a luscious smooth feel. Well integrated with secondary notes of dark soil, crushed rock, espresso, cedar and a medium finish — 2 years ago
$27 Big nose. Notes of blackberry, black currant, boysenberry, eucalyptus, and baking spice. Medium body. Dry. Before decanting, high acid, high tannins, and medium alcohol with a sour finish. Notes of blackberry, baking spice and cherry on the palate. After decanting for about 2 hours this wine opened up significantly. The acid and tannins mellowed out and I really began to enjoy it. This wine became medium alcohol, medium acid and medium plus tannins. In other words, decant and enjoy. — 3 years ago
