Lucia Vineyards (Pisoni)

Santa Lucia Highands Chardonnay 2011

I cannot believe how good this wine is. Was down in the cellar looking for a white. Saw this was a 2011 and figured we needed to drink this soon (if it wasn’t already past peak). Unbelievable. Easily mistaken for a top-end Aubert, this had incredible depth of flavor, complexity, and a finish that went on and on. Without question the best chardonnay I’ve had from the Pisoni clan, this was a fantastic surprise. — 11 days ago

Union Sacré

La Passion de Légionnaire Star Lane Vineyard Merlot 2017

2017 vintage. @Delectable Wine this is the Union Sacre La Passion de Legionnaire Merlot. Lots of finesse and freshness. Raspberry, red plum, blackberry, tart cherry, pomegranate, a bit of a red floral thing, new oak-inflected vanilla, mocha, and coconut notes. Great texture, definitely lends that Santa Ynez coastal elegance and texture. — 18 days ago

Sextant Wines

Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir 2018

The best sextant vintage of Pinot yet! Vibrant bright cherry, lively wine that evolves in the glass. Perfect thanksgiving wine, which is why I paired it with the delicate pork tenderloin tonight. Has enough racy acid to challenge the vinaigrette accompanying the couscous salad. Lovely! ‘Tis the season! — 6 days ago

Andrew Murray

Roasted Slope Vineyard Syrah 2014

To quote Miles: “Andrew Murray. Well okay.” Been a while since I’ve had one of Andrew’s wines, but I recall purchasing this at a Harvest Party a few years ago. Probably on the downslope just a bit, but this is still terrific. I always view the Roasted Slope as his homage to Guigal in my view, and it is a terrific wine. — 8 days ago

Blair Fox Cellars

The Dare Syrah 2011

Decided to crack this rare one, only 75 cases produced, since the winery opened the library today and offered up some more bottles. This Syrah is extremely big and complex, lots of tobacco, coffee, and earth up front but finishes in a lingering, soft, and ethereal manner. I believe this is the best vintage of The Dare to date and looking forward to seeing how this wine progresses over the next several years. — 16 days ago

Lot 676 Santa Barbara County Roussane Blend 2016

The wine’s nose is very expressive and full of apricot, almonds, anise and Meyer lemon. The mouthfeel is weighty and the acidity is medium-vibrant. Flavors like stone fruit and citrus leads the way, while the Roussanne’s notes of nuts and salinity are balanced by the floral aspect of the Viognier. This is a versatile white wine for pairing with food. It will be a hit on your holiday table. — 8 days ago

Ceritas

Trout Gulch Vineyard Chardonnay 2018

Alder Yarrow
9.5

You’ll hear wine geeks throw around the word “nervosity” from time to time, and this is a perfect example of a wine that displays that thrumming electrical current of acidity and sappy piney lemony zip that earns the adjective. Gorgeous wet pavement welded to neon lemon pith and pink grapefruit all dusted with fleur de sel. Utterly mouthwatering and delicious. This is the remains of a sample bottle that I’ve been nursing for a few days since tasting it and it continues to be fantastically fresh and demonstrative of a long life ahead of it - provided you have the willpower to wait that long. — 2 hours ago
