Casual Encounters Syrah Blend 2016

2014 Vintage. 15.6% Alcohol. 39% Syrah, 38% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, 3% Tannat. Best the next day after wine preserved in Argon so decant or give more time in the cellar but this is really good. Licorice, tobacco and boysenberry nose. Smooth mouthfeel. Great job Russell From. — 8 days ago

Paul Lato

Boogie Nights Larner Vineyard Malvasia Bianca 2019

I’ve posted this before, but this is just a terrific wine from Paul Lato. Highly recommended if you’d like an incredibly well-made, crisp, bright malvasia with a Central Coast fare to it. Awesome. — 9 days ago

Yadkin Valley Merlot 2017

This is a small town beauty pageant winner - rural North Carolina channeling the Right Bank... gorgeous brooding ripe almost stewed plum, blackberry & boysenberry mingled with dusty edges, spices, savory and a wild savage forestry-herbaceousness. Medium bodied w/firm tannins backbone - an absolute pleasure that absolutely over-delivers @ $17. .1 bump for locale & price point — 18 days ago

Todos Santa Ynez Valley Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Drank the ‘14 and ‘15 side by side last night. 2 very different blends and as such 2 very different wines. Both good! The ‘15 nose fragrant and pleasing. The higher blend of Sangiovese softens the edges of the ‘15 vs. the ‘14. The ‘14 has very little Sangiovese and more Cab sauv. The ‘14 nose is a bit chemical. The ‘14 has more depth and nuance. The Syrah base sings through on both. — 12 days ago

Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

Tannins have rounded out nicely and it’s got some pretty intense fruit forward characteristics. Black cherries, raspberries and a bit of spice on the back end. — 8 days ago

Estate Grown Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir 2016

Ruby with red fruit aromas and spicy herb floral notes, aged for 14 months in 35% new French oak. On the palate black raspberry and cherry flavors with herb tea and earthy tones. Firm grainy tannins, balanced acidity, nice mouthfeel,  pleasant finish ending with earthy mineral character. Nice! — 15 days ago

Dirty & Rowdy

Skinner White Oak Flats Vineyard Mourvedre 2016

Wow! Just Wow! Pretty light purple and explosive lilac, red berry, Asian incense and cranberry. Lighter in the mouth than expected...12.7 ABV doesn’t “do” jammy. But..quaffable and poundable... amazing energy and life as the savory/fruit notes wash over your tastebuds and a long, smiley face finish. These wines require a reimagination of table wine....particularly California table wine... Well done, Hardy! — 2 days ago

Au Bon Climat

Santa Barbera Pinot Noir 2018

A real bargain for $25. Light Ruby with aromas of red fruit and gentle perfume spice. On the palate strawberry and cranberry with tea and baking spices on a smooth tannin structure. Fresh finish with a medium length ending. Solid value, the fruit should calm down a bit in a year or so. — 9 days ago
