Ruby Cabernet

Chateau Montelena

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Winding down Wednesday with a lovely, medium ruby, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, presenting ripe blackberry, black cherry, black currant, plum, fig, violet, and licorice primary aromas, and a bouquet of vanilla, clove, nutmeg, cardamom, and cedar secondary aromas, striking balance on the palate with well-integrated flavor notes consistent with the nose.

This wine is dry and nicely structured with medium(+) acidity, full body, high alcohol, and grippy tannins and the fruit is supple and beautifully concentrated. It has a long, elegant finish.

On the palate this Spanish Cab shows blackberry, currant and ripe cherry flavors with eucalyptus, black pepper and herb spice, concentrated and complex with well integrated and structured tight yet smooth tannins. Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Impressive. Deep dark ruby color. The nose is opulent with black cherry, blackberry, plum, oak, hints of vanilla and tobacco. On the pallet it is intense with dark fruit; a supple and velvety mouthfeel. Medium-high tannings with a long finish. Every bit complex and round. One of the best bang-for-the-buck Napa Cab’s I’ve tasted in long long time. Cheers! — 3 days ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

The one that started it all; I feel this wine is so underrated and sometimes even gets a bad rap due the commercial direction the brand has taken. All that aside, I truly believe the wine is worth every cent. The color is a nice deep ruby. The nose has deep bright cherry notes. The pallet is complex with tobacco, plum, leather and earth; a round mouthfeel and a proper finish. The winery may have taken a commercial direction but the vines remain the same and one can taste the Napa soul on every sip. — 11 days ago

Fashionable country resort in mid 20th century, popular with Hollywood due to 1892 stone Manor House and historic gardens. Dark Ruby with aromas of ripe pronounced berry fruits, herbs and spice, for this mostly Cab Sauv blend. On the palate black cherry and black currant flavors with oak and earthy notes. Well balanced, fine ripe tannins long finish ending with fruit, espresso notes and pepper spice! Nice! Drink over next decade. — 11 days ago
