Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2001 Domaine Louis Remy (currently known as Chantal Remy) Latricières-Chambertain pours a garnet color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with gorgeous notes of bruised strawberry, cranberry, pomegranate, dried red flowers, sous bois, mushrooms, a touch of black pepper and a charming mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is brilliant, old school GC Burgundy with decades left in it. Painfully young, but that old vine syrah and granite density make it hard to resist. Dark, angry, pure granitic bite on the back half, needs some time, but the ripeness and warming fruit is coaxed out with air. I see a lot of potential here. — 5 years ago

Stunning, lifted nose of violets, blackberry, red fruit, florals and a little barbecue-sauce savoriness, almost Côte-Rôtie-like in perfume. The palate is juicy, elegant and nicely mature, with good texture and freshness, but it lacks the excitement and precision of Sylvain Gauthier’s later wines. Unfortunately, there is also a touch of heat on the finish that I cannot get past. Beautiful aromatics, solid wine, but the palate keeps it at 9.3. — 2 months ago

Nose has under-ripe pineapple, cut yellow apple, yellow raspberry, faint herbal notes and wet, crushed rock.

Palate has saline apple juice, mashed yellow raspberry, dried lemon pith and moist garden soil. Solid acidity and a long finish, fun wine.

New project between Remi Gauthier and his brother Sylvain Gauthier. Killer nose. Honey, honeycomb, beeswax, mineral, some vineyard peach but barely there. Huge earthy notes and killer minerals. Super precise and aromatic. Spice, herbs. Wow what complexity. This is awesome. Smells like elite white Rhone. Palate is teeming with energy, richness and ripeness and insane purity. Wow this is terrific. Awesome inner mouth aromas and terrific almost Rieslingesque freshness, minerality and intensity. So juicy with an explosiveness to it. This is the best beginner white Rhone i have ever tasted. Just stunning. — 6 years ago
