Polished wine. Interesting. I like it from a postural, viticultural standpoint but the end result for me is slightly too acidic and lacking intensity of aromas and flavours and the finish is only medium. It’s a very nice wine and pleasurable, but for me, it’s lacking a bit of good ol funk to cost 30-35$. #carignan #sonoma — 16 hours ago
A few fun bottles from last Friday.
My thanks to @Mark Flesher for opening this as I have a visit lined up with Hayfork and Lewelling during my Napa trip in 3 weeks. I was surprised at how dense and chewy this was! So much to unpack here. I’d say this is fruit forward without being flabby or over the top. Aromatically there is baked mixed berry pie, dark plum, Mexican vanilla and baking spices. Large and in charge on the palate showing roasted dark fruits, dusty herbs, and chewy tannins at the finish. I think this is still evolving, but very enjoyable now. — 14 days ago
A 93 now with upside potential. Probably should have left this alone for 2-3 years even after a 30 minute decant. Dirty raspberry pie and black cherry marmelade. Rather sweet open. Herbal middle. Finishes a little off balance but still very full bodied and grippy. Mostly dirty red fruit dominated. Really good but I can imagine how complex this will be in about 5 years. HOLD these. — 9 days ago
A gorgeous chard! Bright citrus fruits, delicious stone fruits, slightly saline minerals, oak-induced char are knitted together harmoniously. The richly textured palate is round, seamless, and elegant. And the lightly spiced and honeyed finish is long.
At Taj Campton Place. I have not had a chard this good in a long time. — 12 days ago
Pale lemon, Aromas of fresh ripe stone & tropical fruits, honey, nutty and blossom notes. On the palate fresh fruit flavors of apple, lemon and melon with savory toasty oak tones. Medium+ finish ends with fruit, biscuit and oaky mineral notes. Nice. Tasting Sample. — 13 days ago
