Ranch 32

Gargiulo Vineyards

Money Road Ranch Merlot 2014

A 93 now with upside potential. Probably should have left this alone for 2-3 years even after a 30 minute decant. Dirty raspberry pie and black cherry marmelade. Rather sweet open. Herbal middle. Finishes a little off balance but still very full bodied and grippy. Mostly dirty red fruit dominated. Really good but I can imagine how complex this will be in about 5 years. HOLD these. — 8 days ago

Lucky Well U. V. Pinot Noir 2015

Ehren Jordan winemaking paired with Ulises Valdez grape growing (RIP)? I’m in on both counts. This has evolved like crazy since opening a few hours ago. I enjoyed that little bit of funk it had on initial pop but it has continued to put on weight over the last couple hours. Fruit continues to darken in profile. Started a bit burgundian with some earthy profile on the nose and a lean palate, now much more classic russian river. I dig the evolution, well made wine. — a month ago

Lewelling Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

A few fun bottles from last Friday.

My thanks to
@Mark Flesher for opening this as I have a visit lined up with Hayfork and Lewelling during my Napa trip in 3 weeks. I was surprised at how dense and chewy this was! So much to unpack here. I’d say this is fruit forward without being flabby or over the top. Aromatically there is baked mixed berry pie, dark plum, Mexican vanilla and baking spices. Large and in charge on the palate showing roasted dark fruits, dusty herbs, and chewy tannins at the finish. I think this is still evolving, but very enjoyable now.

Interesting as syrahs go. Deep and very spicy. Glad we drank now. Would definitely get again if we go back. — 8 days ago

Buchignani Ranch Zinfandel Blend 2012

Hitting its stride. Extroverted nose. Roasted meat, coffee bean, brambly blackberry, dry gravel. Savory and with nice acidity, this is the polar opposite of a jammy Zin. Intense, iodine laced Zinny flavors. Great wine. — 9 days ago

Keefer Ranch Chardonnay 2014

A gorgeous chard! Bright citrus fruits, delicious stone fruits, slightly saline minerals, oak-induced char are knitted together harmoniously. The richly textured palate is round, seamless, and elegant. And the lightly spiced and honeyed finish is long.
At Taj Campton Place. I have not had a chard this good in a long time.

Dutton Ranch Chardonnay 2016

Pale lemon, Aromas of fresh ripe stone & tropical fruits, honey, nutty and blossom notes. On the palate fresh fruit flavors of apple, lemon and melon with savory toasty oak tones. Medium+ finish ends with fruit, biscuit and oaky mineral notes. Nice. Tasting Sample. — 11 days ago
