Absolutely love it. Not overwhelmingly oaky. Nice butter and Meyer lemon. — 5 days ago

Goldschmidt Vineyards

Game Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Very delicate winemaking style with Oakville fruit. Really nice aromatics; blackberry compote, spiced blackberry jam, and some charcoal. Crushed red and black berries, crushed rocks and dried savory herbs. — 10 days ago

Intoxicating. A slathering of complex dark fruits, like a thick layer of jam over hot buttered toast. 30 second finish+. Loved it. — 10 days ago

Bates' Ranch Merlot 1997

Nice one. Surprisingly tannic after 22 years.
Winemaker’s Comments: 77% Merlot & 23% Cabernet Franc. Fruity, elegant, aromatic bouquet with hints of mint & anise. Smooth tannin / acid / fruit balance. Complex. Unfined and unfiltered. Bottled March, 1999. Only 89 cases produced.

Papera Ranch Zinfandel 2013

I’ve enjoyed a decent amount of Calisle zins and really enjoy their take (not overly jammy, balanced spice), but this was my first experience with this offering and it was very unique. The aromatics here don’t smell like Zin...more Syrah like. Funky nose. Blood orange and spicy rhubarb with red fruits and cardamom. On the palate it is crunchy and energetic, oozing black cherries and zesty citrus. Very intriguing. Thanks @Dan Fitzgerald . — 2 days ago

Campana Ranch

Fountaingrove Syrah 2014

Deep inky in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries blueberries, cherries, licorice, oak, vanilla, wildflowers, spices, licorice, cloves, black pepper, chocolates and coffee.

Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and nice legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, plums, black cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, coke, light earth and peppercorn.

Spicy finish with fine tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a great California Syrah. Drinking very nicely now, with lots of black fruits and spices.

Showing nice complexity with a great mouthfeel. Well balanced, bold and rich.

Needs 90 minutes to open up properly and bring out the complexity.

Peaking now and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years.

13.9% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$41.

McDougall Ranch Pinot Noir 2012

Ripe, rich but still light in its feet. Smoke, spice and black cherry notes with laudable acid/fruit balance. Smooth, silken finish with absolutely no sharp notes. Wonderful with cherry lacquered pork belly with crunchy skin and heirloom cranberry beans. — 5 days ago

Robert Biale Vineyards

Old Crane Ranch Zinfandel 2005

Just concluded our annual Fall seclusion at our cabin in the Rangeley lakes region of Maine, mobile service up there is mostly non-existent, after several days I am posting again. Notes are somewhat brief, as my focus is relaxing and watching the Common Loons swimming and diving in the cove in front of our camp.

Nose has blackberry, boysenberry, ripe red cherry, dried raspberry, new leather, cedar shavings, blueberry skin and dry earth.
Palate has blackberry jam on old leather, dried black cherry, moist-loamy soil with sweet red pepper on the forever finish. Still showing tannins after a 4+ hour decant, this bottle could hold until a 20th birthday without concern, no color fade whatsoever.
One of the older bottles to Biale zinfandel to be coveted in our cellar, last bottle, of course.
