Clos des Papes

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2007

I had been worried how these CdP would show after previous bottles from the case showed poorly. These were superb. Dark fruit, silky tannin, long finish. Perfect with roast lamb and pommes à la Montagne! I fine way to finch the case bought en primeur when I was first getting into wine 👌🏼 — 5 months ago

Nose is layered with bright and rich raspberry amongst lots of savoury leather and oak spice complexity. More and more of the same on the palate with terrific structure and length. Awesome, I just had to keep coming back to this. (Cab Sauv, Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec) — 5 years ago

Monthly WTF group recap. Theme this month was “bring something special”. Normally we taste all of the wines blind, but we decided to do a relaxed night with amazing wines at a great restaurant. Spectacular evening!

This was my contribution. Again, it was paired next to the filtered ‘11 vintage and the colors were incredibly different, with this being hay/straw colored with just a touch of cloudy appearance. If guessing blind, I would have called this Aubert SugarShack (which I love). Medley of lemon cream, marzipan and honeyed sea salt on the nose with a rich and powerful profile on the palate, yet it is nimble...perfectly balanced. Sweet oak, caramel dipped golden delicious apple at the finish.

Château Lynch-Moussas

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Vintage 2006 | deep colour, ruby red/brown rim, classic smell with laurel, cassis, autumn forrest, milkchocoalte, taste still powerfull, probably enough reserves to go another 5 years, but it gives joy now. Good balance and fine acidity. | Paired with beef finch, potatoes from the oven and a salad / mixed vegetables. — 3 years ago

Kongsgaard

@Benjamin Keator had his hosting at the CC tonight and it was absolutely incredible. What a night of gorgeous wines! All wines are guessed blind.

The third white in an insane flight of Chardonnays. I guessed all were Cali (they were), and guessed they are all 2012 (they were). I actually guessed this was either Kongsgaard or Jarvis Finch Hollow, so half right? Richly gold in the glass (Kongsgaard giveaway). Acidity was fairly high which was surprising. Honeyed fruit and honeycomb. Always unique and always fantastic.

@Benjamin Keator @Shay A totally agree - Kongsgaard will be excellent now but if you can keep your hands off a few years you’ll reap greater rewards. Cheers to you on a stunning lineup!

I have a lot of Kongsgaard, particularly the 2012. This is the only vintage that needed 4 years in bottle and an hour full decant to reach its potential. Most Kongsgaard chards drink much better upon release. I actually think this vintage is going to surpass the 12 Judge. The typical Kongsgaard butterscotch and nuttiness is finally starting to show in the ‘12’s. The Kings Farm is what really impressed me last night. I thought it just about stole the show. Good thing I have 10 more bottles. But this is all just my opinion 😬

@Benjamin Keator : Didn’t even know the Kong’s Farm existed, and as you heard last night, it was most people’s’ favorite if the flight, but most people kept saying each wine was their favorite at different times throughout the meal...they were all incredible!

Jarvis has always been such a unique producer with its incredible underground facility and fascinating lineup of wines. Their Finch Hollow Chardonnays (this one and the Unfiltered version) are outrageously expensive, but they sure know how to deliver on flavor profile.

My notes here are actually quite similar to the 2015 I opened last year, but everything is a touch more restrained. Normally quite rich with expensive oak usage, this seems nicely balanced…it’s almost fresh in profile. Sweet lemon cream alongside marzipan and sea breeze aromatically. From a phenolic standpoint, it’s close to some of the Aubert offerings with its powerful texture. Finishes with a surprising amount of honeysuckle, caramel dipped apple, and honeycrisp. This seems to be built for a bit longer aging compared to the 2015. I’ll be curious to see how the 2018 is.
