Vintage 2012 | With ten years this Rioja offers beautiful fruit in smell and a true to type Tempranillo taste. Enjoyed this with paëlla.

A blend of 85 % Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 5 % Mazuelo, this Rioja is dominated by dark fruit with prominent vanilla, purple bouquet and spice notes on the nose. Full bodied with med plus tannin; great acidity with hint of gaminess and smokiness. What a solid Rioja. Drinkable now, could age for another decade.

Was expecting more for an 8 year old gran reserva. Flavorful, don’t get me wrong, but lacks a little depth and the fruit is kind of muted and tannins and a bit flat.

Never disappoints.

I bought couple of bottles of each vintage when the CVNE Grand Reserva showed up at Costco for $19.99. To me this is the best deal one can find for a Rioja.
The 2012 feels leaner, more red fruits, and the oak is more restrained, which I really like. A consistent performer year in and year out.

This is outstanding wine. Especially after having some lesser wine last night that I’m convinced was heavily treated with Mega Purple. This is genuine, with beautiful fruit and earth flavors, well integrated smooth tannin.

Good with pasta. Need some breathing time. Good value from Costco. $16.
