Domaine François Raveneau

Chapelot Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2004

04 has always been one of my absolute favorite vintages from Raveneau. This outstanding showing of 04 Chapelot was a perfect example. It’s stunningly complex nose makes it difficult to put down and upon first smell you’ll smile from ear to ear. And it’s no less expressive on the palate. It’s so perfectly balanced right now with its yellow fruit and earthy/mineral elements. A stunning bottle that’s in a perfect place. — 5 years ago

Bodegas Dominio de Cair

Reserva Tierras de Cair Tempranillo 2011

De c-EYE-ear. We opened this and it smelled like paint. Not the beat way to impress a date. But ive never seen a wine open so quickly. Within 15 minutes this wine showed the profile classic to Ribera Del Duoro wines. This js a great value if you can find it, an even better winery if you're going to do the tour. — 8 years ago

Cayuse Vineyards

En Cerise Vineyard Syrah 2012

I was really impressed with this for such a young En Chamberlin vineyard. Fox fur and raw hot dog aromas rise from the decanter, dark herbaceous flavor profile—black olive, licorice, bay leaf. Thank you for hosting in your gorgeous cellar @Mike R you provided ear to ear smiles in your cellar — 9 years ago

Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2003

Young still but great wine from this ripe year. So much going on, black cherry, black tea, vanilla, sap, spice, smoked meat, hint of anise, violets, I catch skunky barnyard now and again, but it's subtle.

Big deep palate, with smooth tannins are integrated but will resolve and smooth out in years to come still.

Knocking on the door of really great Burgundy.

Good wine for a fairly crappy day that I feel like drinking good wine after and venting about on a wine app, ha. Found out this afternoon my little buddy in the background has lymphoma, not sure how long he's got yet, waiting on more tests, but at max it's not more than a year or two, at worst very soon. But he's lived a good (and very spoiled 😉) indoor life with us for 14 years, and he'll get lots more chin rubs, ear scratching, and love before he goes. 😿💔

Château La Conseillante

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Delectable Wine
9.7

The 1989 La Conseillante is one of the top performers in Pomerol and arguably now one of the best values. This bottle confirms that exuberance and joie-de-vivre on the nose, displaying the telltale crushed violets in bloom, with precious but controlled red and black fruit underneath. The palate is sumptuous from the start, presenting cashmere tannin and perhaps a little more glycerine in this bottle. The bravura finish leaves you grinning from ear to ear. Stunning, and it will remain on its plateau for many years. Tasted at the 1989 Bordeaux dinner at Hatched in London. (Neal Martin, Vinous, September 2019) — 7 years ago

TOR Kenward Family Wines

Clone 4 Beckstoffer To-Kalon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

To quote @Mike R this had us smiling from ear to ear. A completely balanced, yet complex wine. Layers of cassis and kirsch on the nose, dark fruits - blueberry, blackberry - mingle with cigar box and wet rock (in such a good way) on the palate. Medium bodied - it’s not terribly viscous - but super integrated tannins and acid. I loved this wine. LOVED. Sweet spot for sure. — 8 years ago

Napa Valley Red Blend 2010

This had me smiling from ear to ear and was, to me, as perfect as a wine could be. Everything was in harmony and such a great middle road between old and new world. This wine is so distinct I think I could pick it out blind. Dark fruit just dominates the nose - blueberry jam and boysenberry. The palate is smooth and lush. While the nose has jam, the palate is not extracted or sweet. It just is a perfect orchestra in a glass. I know that sounds corny but it's true. This wine is so beautiful and has a long life ahead of it. I've been fortunate to have many "100 pointers" and some have been great, but this is my first perfect 10 for me on Delectable. My better half argues 9.8 but I'm the one on this app so my call!! And, PS, it paired perfectly with Diana Ross live - this wine is "The Boss." — 9 years ago

Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2023

Grassy and vegetal notes on the nose, with hints of ear and green apple evening things out, with a medium, surprisingly syrupy body. The palate was rich, with a slight oaky characteristic, and floral palate but a very vegetal finish. Very interesting new world alternative to New Zealand Sav Blanca’s I feel. — 4 years ago

Le Marne Gavi Cortese 2017

Love this value wine from Michele Chiarlo. It's produced on Gavi from the Cortese grape. Light citrus notes of lemon, melon and crisp green apple. If you hold this wine to your ear it will whisper a floral bouquet of lavender. Nice finish. Great paired with seafood, pasta, or any lighter dish. — 7 years ago

Tenuta Pozzopalo

Primitivo di Manduria Primitivo 2016

My first glass of wine in over 2 weeks. I’ve had pneumonia and an ear infection along with 4 rounds of antibiotics. I’m finally starting to feel like eating and having wine. I picked this one because I really liked it last time I had it. From what I can taste it’s very tannic and acidic but that could just be me. No matter what I’m still going to savor and enjoy it!
