Importado por Quintana Hermanos. Muy rico, without breaking the bank. — 3 years ago
Taking a cue from @Severn Goodwin I’m drinking some MO wine, which is made just a few hours from where I live. I had never had anything by Stone Hill prior to this, assuming it wasn’t very good, but I was wrong. This is a great light bodied red and was great with a slight chill. Black and blue fruits, forest floor, and a mineral streak combine with medium + acid and light tannins for an easy drinking, dry, fresh red. I bought a few of this producer’s wines and look forward to trying the others. A pleasant surprise! — 3 years ago
🎸Just what I needed 🎸 (cue The Cars)
Sometimes a wine just hits the spot. Elegant and refreshing. Smells like fresh nectarine and limestone. Tastes like chalk and stones with hints of barely ripe red fruit (strawberry, watermelon). Acid for days. Divine with cucumber salad. — 3 years ago

Intense stuff! Apple and eucalyps on the nose! Almonds, herbs and a little oak in the palette. — 3 years ago
Everything about this wine screams uncool in our industry in the present era: high alcohol (14%), heavy extraction, generous use of new oak (presumably), ripe + chewy tannins, flavors that shout rather than whisper and high praise from Robert Parker (cue Elaine or Carlton Banks’ dance moves). Maybe it’s my 90’s nostalgia or maybe I’ve been drinking too much vintage port these days 🤷🏻♀️ but it all works beautifully here: intense aromas of licorice, pepper, cedar, black plum, wet tar, dried tobacco, cranberries, cassis, dried violets. And this is only the beginning... A blast of macerated red and black berries on the palate, held together by a solid acid backbone, followed by a long finish laced with black olive, dried tobacco, mocha and mineral. Hedonistic. Three cheers for Alicante Bouschet! — 5 years ago

You've all had this before. It's Penfold's budget offering, and it's the secret weapon in my braised short rib. Cue Julia Childs, "A splash for the short rib, a half bottle for me..." Holy man, this leaves you feeling like you ate a pack of Sour Patch Kids. Puckering. Super sour blackberries, herbs, and some cedar tannins. Long finish.
