Les Meurgers des Dents de Chiens Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2014

Very crisp and focussed in the nose. Sharp edges with minerality some lime and sulfur. Not the broadest in the mid palate but very defined. — 2 days ago

Millésime Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne Grand Cru Chardonnay

Mild toast, lees, green apple, light bodied yet full in the mouth with awesome acidity. After a while in the glass, full apple juice on the finish. — 6 days ago

Romane Machotte Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2015

Nettles and raspberries on the nose. I wasn’t sure I was going to like this when I sniffed it out of the bottle. A solid wall of red fruit on the front of the palate — bit it’s not syrupy — and it’s just the right intensity to offset any off-notes on the nose. The tannic structure is smooth, but the intensity drops off mid-palate on the way to the back of the mouth. Lots of high notes on the finish. It does a triple backflip on my pallet, and then it leaves me asking “what just happened there on my tongue?” I think this is a lovely wine. — 3 days ago

Hautes Cotes de Nuits Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018

If you tasted me blind and told me this was a villages Nuits or Vosne, I’d go along with that. This incredibly fine and detailed Pinot starts out with aromas of blackcherries and boysenberry, then follows with a classic Burgundian “hard candy” palate of identical flavors. What it doesn’t do is turn broad, coarse and balsamic in the way so many Hautes Côtes reds do. Sensational. — 13 days ago

le Pré Beaujolais Gamay 2016

Red kabinett! So lively and fine. Seriously pungent nose of red berries and florals. Palate density is impressive, probably courtesy of the old vines. High-toned red fruits, spices, and fiery minerality in the mouth. Finishes precise. A real crowd pleaser! — 7 days ago

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2015

So good I had to try another btl! Suave & polished showing dark red & black fruits, black olive, pepper, mineral, licorice & violets. Killer vintage that will reward another 5 yrs in the cellar. — 20 days ago

Clos René (Pierre Lasserre)

Pomerol 1966

Birth year wine for my birthday. Always a roll of the dice with wines this old but this one was really good. Opened up nicely with a little time in the glass. Surprised at the clarity and minimal oxidation. Still had red tones not overly orange on the edges. Classic Bordeaux nose. Leather on the finish. Not a ton going on mid plate (more soft and subtle fruit). Overall very pleasing wine. I wish I was aging as gracefully as this! — 14 days ago
