Luciano Sandrone

Le Vigne Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

This afternoon was a treat having the 2013 Luciano Sandrone La Vigne Barolo.

On the nose was some alcohol at first that blew off with a little time, cherry, raspberry, strawberry, licorice, tar, clove, rose petal, leather and earth.

On the palate you will find cherry, raspberry, plum, licorice, clove, mint, spice and dusty earth.

This wine is full bodied and a powerful mouthfeel with medium + acidity and medium + to high smooth sandy tannins that leads to a long elegant fruit finish. A beautiful wine that won't disappoint. Enjoy the coming weekend and please stay safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Cozzo Mario

Amplé Barolo Nebbiolo

Blueberries, mushrooms, bay leaves on the nose. Crunchy earthy forest floor and dark berry whole cluster stemmy essence. Musty and dark but with food-availability. Pair with veg Italian pasta dishes like lasagne or pesto gemeli with chunky carrots and sun dried tomatoes. — 5 days ago

Bricco delle Viole Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

Approachable now with 2013’s riper red cherry notes. If it were less expensive, I’d fill up my cellar with this stuff. Certainly can age, but this balanced and elegant Nebbiolo that you can decant and enjoy now. — 5 days ago

Azienda Agricola Ronchi di Giancarlo Rocca

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2015

Very reminiscent of the 2010 non-cru Barbaresco but with even more mid palate concentration. Closed for the first day but revealing some lovely perfume on the second. Tannins are surprisingly well-managed, showing flashes of what will be a very elegant wine in another 5 years. Pound-for-pound this is still one of the best buys in Barbaresco. I’m giving perhaps one extra point for long-term potential. — 14 days ago

Giovanni Rosso

Serralunga d'Alba Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

This wine pours a darker color that is a mix of purple and brown. Nose of mint and black tea with black cherry and cocoa. Entry is dirty raspberry, young tobacco, cherry blossoms, black tea, fig. Youthful. Middle is more black cherry fruity, but structured, structured, structured. And tight. Finishes with acidity, raspberry and black cherry backbone, walnuts, pepper. And oak. Still has a decade of life at a minimum. Drinking well, but if my will power can hold on to the others for another 5 years, it will be a 95 for sure. — 3 days ago

Vigne Regali (Banfi)

Rosa Regale Sparkling Brachetto d'Acqui 2016

The wine is a bit fizzy and colors up into a nice reddish brown plum color. The nose offers red flowers and raspberries while the palate is sweet with strawberry, cherry and earth. Rosa Regale has about half the alcohol of a typical wine, so it makes a great sipper for the porch or backyard. — 4 days ago

Marcenasco Barolo Nebbiolo 2014

D7. Pours a dark maroon. Nice aroma of cola, fig, plum, black cherry. Entry is mostly black cherry, good acidity with tobacco, clove, plum, fig. Medium bodied wine. Finishes with good weight and has a nice finish. This wine is a 15 or so year ager. But why not drink now? Was very good with minimal decant. — 8 days ago

Vigna Bricco Cerretta Barolo Riserva Nebbiolo 2012

Stuck in NYC with 6 hour plane delay and decided to try a modern Barolo - no regrets at all. Most of my Barolos are old school and will be suitable for my children to drink when they are my age, plus 6 hours isn’t enough for the decant. Here I popped and poured and this was singing today. Medium body, floral, balsamic, cherry, some wood, and firm black tea tannins. Definitely not overdone, very balanced. — 2 days ago

Bricco Boschis Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

Expensive ($60-90ish depending on your location) but worth it. Young at 6 years after harvest, but better the 2nd day. Not even the slightest perceptible flaw, this is a bright sour cherry Barolo that will certainly improve with time in bottle. Changes in the glass over time, this is a balanced traditionally-produced bottle. — 7 days ago

Bruno Giacosa

Falletto di Serralunga D'Alba Barolo Nebbiolo 1996

A special wine tonight. This 1996 Giacosa was in terrific shape from the first pour. We let it collect itself in a decanter for 3 hrs and drank it over a leisurely dinner in Vermont. It was soft, elegant, warm, and inviting. Couldn’t put it down. The fruit was dissipating but it’s secondary notes were so sexy. A great wine. — 8 days ago
