Aged beautifully! Nice nose with some tertiary notes but limited. Still enough fruit there some dark cherries, milk chocolate.
Tanins smoothly integrated. Nice drink on a stormy sunday afternoon!

Lots of fun bottles were popped at Al’s hosting this past weekend for his birthday celebration. All were served blind. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 6 reds and 1 dessert wine.

Fantastic showing. Unmistakably Rhône. It smells of charred potpourri, spicy rhubarb and tea leaves. On the palate, it was light and nimble with a decidedly black pepper like finish. I was very confident this was southern Rhône CdP as I didn’t get any smoked meat or iron type notes like I typically do with northern Rhône. Just a hint of sweetness in the black cherry core to bring out the acidity and smooth the tannins. I called this southern Rhône CdP from the mid 2000s.

In order to be fair to this wine, I have to put aside predispositions about what Beaujolais SHOULD be like. Because this is a monster wine. Fully saturated color. Intense nose has dark crunchy dark cherry/berry fruit, intense cracked granite minerality. Massively concentrated flavors in the mouth. Tannic too. While finesse isn’t a word I’d use with this one, it avoids the blocky heaviness of a lot of 15s. Peppery heat peaks through in the finish. Pretty decent acidity. — a month ago

From a slice of land in the Pavillon, their other top Fleurie Cuvee. This is old school and awesome. What a nose. Big huge blackberry and cherry fruit. Also some licorice. Just jumps out at ya. Also loads of tweed jacket and even some watermelon. So vibrant and expressive. Earth and mineral frame the fruit so well. Concentrated and juicy wirh amazing sappy purity and fruit is all skin now but I’m sure will open up as it airs. Tight now but it is all there. Finish is short initially then slowly expands with air.
