My favorite Nerellos: Contrada from Passopiscario. This is is a heavier Nerello with red and black fruit. Smokey, earthy, burnt earth, med tannins, good acidity. — 6 months ago
I believe that Carricante has the potential to be this good, but I can't think of a white wine from Etna I've found this beautiful. — 9 years ago
Set out to try a Sicilian wine for the first time (that I can remember) at my favorite restaurant in NYC and it did not dissapoint! Notes of cherry, red fruit, and smoke. Surprisingly mineral finish for a red, incredibly dry! Fantastic! — 4 months ago
Ruby red. Oak vanilla. Nutmeg, clove, cranberry raspberry blueberry. Red flower. Herb. Leather. Smoky earthy. Dry flower.

Big Nerello with tannic structure. Red fruit with smoke and earth. Delicious. — 5 years ago
2020 spring. Really lovely - it has that thruline to Burgundy, but with more overt sour cherry, more baked spice and ash. It’s be fun to compare with the Passopisciaro and Alta Mora versions — 6 years ago
Deep translucent ruby. Salty, smoky nose with strong iron/blood notes. Medium bodied with very nice grip. Pure red fruit. Good length. Clean and fresh and juicy. Balanced. Not as good as Etna pt 1 but still, love this style — 7 years ago
Nose of black cherry and pine straw. On the palate the flavors are the same, with great depth, structure, and length. This has a gravity that goes beyond most any Etna Rosso I’ve tasted. Phenomenal, and has years if not decades ahead of it... — 9 years ago
Always one of my favorite Nerello. — a year ago
These wines are all amazing. The S was a little lighter then some of the other Contradas. — 3 years ago
2014 is 70% PV, 30% Cesanese d’Affile. His Tête de cuvée. rich ripe unctuous on the nose. really extracted. It’s good, it’s a bit hot but it also needs time. black fruits it’s well made- just not my thing. — 5 years ago
A white Nerello Mascalese from Cantine Valenti locates in Passopisciaro. Fantastic white from southern Italy, paired great with an orange anchovy salad. — 6 years ago
Nice red from Etna - Passorosso 2016. With Gianluca Cristiano Paolo and Ferruccio — 8 years ago

Best red if the trip, a Franchetti from Pascopissciaro, a round bodied nerello mascalese from the cellar at Cave Ox in Solicchiata on the north slope of Etna. Would be even better with a few years — 3 months ago
