Reserve Eye of the Falcon Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon Petit Verdot 2021

New vintage of this Cab and Petit Verdot blend. Grippy tannins, and powerful layered red and black fruit. Long finish. As the wine opens up beautiful hints of cassis. Nicely integrated at 5 years. Great wine to celebrate all the moms. ❤️😊 — 2 months ago

Jean Vesselle

Oeil de Perdrix Brut Champagne Blend

Historic style of making champagne, eye of the partridge is something between a Blanc de Noirs and Rose. Such an appetizing rose gold color. Pastry/biscuit, strawberries & cream & clementine on the nose, much more lithe, tense and bright on the palate.

Honestly it’s hard to come up with descriptors because it’s just a joy to drink.

Disgorged last year on Valentine’s Day.

I’m really digging the Vesselle wines these days and they are so reasonably priced for the quality.

Morstein Großes Gewächs Riesling 2014

Gave this 45 min slow ox to really open. On the nose: peach, soft ginger, limestone, orange, just so intensely aromatic. On the palate: fantastic acidity, good salinity, mulberry leaf, limestone, peach...wow, love that density paired with the zip. Another absolutely stunning showing. — 5 years ago

Two Vintners

Boushey Vineyard Grenache Blanc 2018

Newish vintage, 600 cases produced. 94/6 blend of Grenache Blanc and Roussanne from three vineyards: Boushey (81% GB), Weather Eye (13% GB), Olsen (6% R). Pale yellow white, excellent clarity. Floral, vanilla and mild aldehydic barnyard aromas. Guava, lactic flavors, tropical fruit finish (banana then coconut? But this ain’t no Piña colada). Lingering cherry and heavy (skin and seed) tannic aftertaste . This is either serious experimental winemaking, or ultra craft-focused ‘blanc de noir’, or is this just their iteration of a pale “orange” wine? Massive tannins for a “white” wine. Not a wine for the faint of heart. Dry, just enough acidity, fruity but still pondering this one... The trop fruit flavors backed off, with cherry and other red fruit and Grenache character flavors emerging after 30-60 minutes. Tannins also softened somewhat, with patience — 6 years ago

Omnia Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2018

Couldn’t quite feel the love with this wine. Came with quite a bit of fanfare and expectation but remained unbalanced with a sharp green note I don’t care for but my wife loves. All in the eye of the beholder I guess. Tasted young, fresh, minerally and spicy. Not like a GSM I would have expected from Southern Rhone. No earthy undernotes. But, hey, I might be all wrong about this because I have never been there. Maybe that is not a distinct character of the wines from there. — 8 months ago

Superb. Needed something to stand up to a bone in rib eye as well as an unruly 1 year old. Deep garnet color. Lot of berries on the nose with hints of smoke and bacon fat. Beautiful long tannic finish. — 5 years ago

Clark & Telephone Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

Was sold as Meomis Momma. Since I love Meomi, I tried it. Wasn’t disappointed. Drank incredibly well for such a young wine. Paired with a rib eye steak and great conversation. It’s a bit pricey though. — 7 years ago

A dark garnet red wine. Balanced with dark ripe black plum and the a finish of sea mist and pepper. The Piedirosso grape delivers a wine full of life and down to earth. Open and drink this wine to remove all of your worries and focus on the important things in life….your family and wine. Excellent when paired with juicy rib eye, spinach and mushrooms. — 3 years ago

Il Palazzone

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

Tasted alongside the 2015 vintage. Both wines were opened about eight hours in advanced and allowed to slow-ox at cellar temp (51°F). Comparatively, this was more open for business. Dark cherry, gym sock, dried herbs, leather, and tomato leaf on the nose. On the palate, dusty cherry fruit with black tea and dried herbs. Rustic. Quite an old school charmer! Towards the end of the bottle, this started to tighten back up a bit but it was still my favorite of the two vintages tonight. I expect this to enjoy a long life. — 5 years ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Firewater, this is the first expensive wine I've ever had. Brought over by friends to accompany a perfectly marinated rib eye grilled medium rare with crazy char on the fatty ends. Its smooth, great body, great flavor with a strong but not overwhelming california cab. I can imagine buying this wine even though I couldn't imagine paying this much money for one wine that I could buy 4 or 5 wines for the same price. — 7 years ago
