Oakville Ranch

Robert Mondavi Winery

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

DEEP red color, almost black and non-see-through. Big fruit forward nose, jammy dark ripe fruits, with hints of blood orange and violet peppered in. A big fruit palate with hints of graphite, vanilla and wood, with tight tannins that hang on and don’t let you forget, with a lithe, tight acidity that shows that it still needs some time to reach its peak, despite the pedigree. This is a prime example of modern Napa cab, dry but fruity, but bombs, American as hell, distinctive and brash, and not ready to play on the big stage, but lots of potential. — 18 hours ago

Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay 2019

— a month ago

Paradigm

Estate Bottled Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Lush, balanced and beautiful. The 2016 Paradigm Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is medium-bodied with aromas of black cherry, cassis, and subtle notes of cedar, bay leaf, and tobacco. On the palate, it offers ripe fruit flavors reminiscent of berry and cherry pie, balanced by moderate tannins and a lingering finish. Bought at the winery - IIRC it was aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, with only about a third being new oak. The result is a balanced and delicious wine that could age for years to come. — 8 days ago

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 1997

Pleasantly surprised. ‘97s have been fairly consistent as they’ve aged (not sure they’ve reached the hype of expectations, but some have), and this being a low-barrier to entry purchase from a reputable producer made it an easy choice to acquire.

Followed over a few hours from bottle and it held strong.

Faded color with the red core starting to dull. Quick whiff of some VA, but it dissipated quickly. Aromatics of old pipe tobacco, fig and brambly red fruits. Old school Napa on the palate (13.8 ABV) with a more lively profile…red and black fruits with cedar, more tobacco and some dark cacao (which turned to a confectionary chocolate Tootsie Roll taste at the finish). Acidity is hanging in there but definitely in the drink-now zone.

Plumpjack

Estate Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Dark ruby in color with a short purple rim.

Full-bodied and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel.

Showing plums, blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, cedar, licorice, light vanilla, tobacco, peppercorn, earth and dark chocolates.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Rich and elegant. Tangy and interesting.

Good right out of the bottle, and so much better after 3 hours of airtime.

This 7 year old Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley is already drinking beautifully, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Has good potential to become a 95+ point wine.

Wine Spectator 93 points. Wine Advocate 94 points.

A great sipping wine that will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot. Aged in (78% new) French Oak barrels for 20 months.

15.2% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$160.
