Birthday celebration wine.

1 hour decant (some fine/cloudy sediment). A monumental dark garnet color. On the nose: dark plum, floral, sandlewood, forest floor, minty menthol, slight stewed meat. Taste: smooth, rich, elegant wine with dark cherry, chocolate, spice, smoke, earth, and a graphite/plum long finish. Drinks well, but no hurry. YUM!

Celebrating my b-day with my wonderful husband in Napa. What a treat for sure! A 2008 Screaming Eagle. A beautiful garnet necklace to match the rich garnet color of the wine. Wow!! Taste— dark plum-cherry, sandalwood and florals with mint and stewed meat notes; slight cedar and spices floating at the tail end. A rich creamy flavor of dark cherry plum fruit, graphite, dark chocolate espresso, hints of vanilla and a long musky floral cedar finish. Looking forward to see how it changes throughout the evening! Cooling down with a nice subtle breeze to enjoy this fabulous wine.

My wife wanted a "decent" cab for our 14th anniversary....so I pulled a bottle from this small "unheralded" Oakville producer. These really shine with some age.

1.5 hour decant(good amount of fine sediment). Served about 5 degrees above cellar temperature. An impressive inky dark reddish/purple color with little signs of aging. On the nose: Bursting from the glass are Plum, creme brulee, wet forest floor, touch of stewed meat, ends with a quick hit of chocolate coffee. Taste: Velvety and elegant...red cherry, chocolate, dried herbs, spice. A soft, dense wine, with tannins that have sweetened but are still there ready to go for the long haul (but drinking fine right now!!)...slight alcohol burn on the finish.

One last bomb for the night with my favorite uncle. This wine does need to be decanted for a while, but it is really dark and inky, but the finish is really fruit Foward and beautiful. A true gem.

Magnum 2008 Screaming Eagle Cab. Wine #4 for K's birthday dinner at Press. Really interesting to drink this after having the Harlan vertical at lunch and side-by-side with the Heitz and Martini. This 2008 much more ready to drink than Harlan. We decanted for an hour before drinking, but it was still really muscular and chewy. Was really delicious to drink while having our steak. Awesome treat.

Not worth it. This was an 08 and did not stand out at all.
