Artemis Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Deep ruby with aromas of dark fruit, sweet spice and herbs. On the palate of this mostly Cab Sauv with a splash of Merlot, sat on French oak for 18 months (about 1/3 new), flavors of rich and juicy cherry and blackberry with savory spice and integrated toasty oak that gives this medium+ length wine a satisfying finish. Artemis should keep well for at least another 5+ years. — 2 days ago

Cade

Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2019

8.9

We drove up Howell Mountain to get to Cade two Sundays ago. What we witnessed was a horror show of fire damage. It’s hard to see nature destroyed in such a fashion. What was worse were all the brick chimneys only standing where there were once a home or a winery building.

Glass fire note. The fire investigation revealed the fire was started by a Cakebread electric fence short. An additional saddening note is Dolores Cakebread, the co-founder of Cakebread Cellars died shortly after the Glass Fire started. She was 90. No way to know if the stress of the fire factored into her passing.

This is still very young and not ready for my palate. It simply needs another year to resolve and integrate. The 19 in its current form rides the fence of Napa & New Zealand styles of Sauvignon Blanc. The fruits are ripe and tropical but has the grassiness of NZ without the cat pee. Decent. If you own it, give it another year or two.

Brut Blanc de Blancs Chardonnay 2014

Jack and Jamie Davies revived the historic vineyards and cellars in 1965. Today, their son Hugh, continues their mission. Coming off their highly successful 12’ & ‘13 vintages, the 2014 is also 100% Chardonnay straw with aromas of floral stone fruits and citrus notes. A terrific crisp sparkler with crisp apple, peach and lemon flavors, fine mousse with tiny bubbles. Tangy acidity on a lingering finish ending with a yeasty creamy character. Nice! — 12 days ago

Nomad Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Here is a delicious wine for #AgedWineTuesday.

Dark ruby in color with a short purple rim. Not showing age at all.

Fruity nose of blackberries, sweet plums, cooked cherries, cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, cola, licorice, light alcohol, chocolates, mocha, peppercorn, leather and tobacco. A nose to smell on for days.

Full bodied with medium acidity, bold and rich with long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, sweet cherries, raisins, vanilla, cedar, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, earth, cola and pencil lead.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a great Cabernet sauvignon from Napa Valley. Showing great complexity and mouthfeel. Well balanced and fruity, with a spicy finish.

Still young and needs 5 years of bottle time, but this 11 year old is drinking very nicely now.

Gorgeous nose and very tasty on the palate. A great Cabernet to drink by the porch with good friends.

Thank you Scott for sharing this with me.

Robert Parker 94 points.

Needs a few hours to open up properly. Only after 4 hours, tannins came in, so please be patient.

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with a nice piece of steak.

A small production of only 389 cases.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

94 points.

$175 (current vintage).

EE Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

‘12 vintage. Drinking beautifully. Prior notes of “grilled grape jam” absolutely apply. I kinda expected it to be bigger than it is, but I won’t go so far as to say it’s fading. I have, let’s say, such BIG expectations for Bevan wines that I sometimes expect it to be more flamboyant and opulent than it is or ever was. — 3 days ago

Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

This wine is in its early innings and still requires a 2 hour decant. Graphite, cigar box, and red fruits - beautiful, and getting better year after year. — 10 days ago

We started with two Sauvignon Blancs. I enjoyed this one more than than the 2019. It simply has had a year longer in bottle to round out.

The 2018 proved to be a classic Napa Sauvignon Blanc. The 2018 was thick, nicely round and good viscosity. Tropical in style. Lots of melons, pineapple, white stone fruits, lighter citruses, beautiful, soft mid minerality with very good acidity and well balanced & polished finish.

The tannnins in all their 2017 Cabernets were grainy big, dry & dark tarry. Blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, creamy raspberries, dark cherries, plum, fresh roast, dark chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, clove, some nutmeg, medium, dark spice, graphite, tobacco, youthful and showing plenty of wood with dark, red, purple, some blue flowers set in violets & lavender. The acidity was quite nice. The structure, tension, length & balance are good but, need about 8 years in bottle to start to shine. Showing promise on finish but this is still a very youthful/primary.
