Marquis De Surblet

Château Bel Air-Marquis d'Aligre

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2011

Lyle Fass

Wow, so earthy and mushroomy. Margaux florals are singing. Red currants. leather, smoke, spice, so many aromas. A 9.7 nose. Lights out. Peppermint. Candy cane. So complex and diverse. Dried leaves. Wet leaves. Tree bark. Juicy and clean with lovely sweet red currant fruit, terrific freshness and some gritty tannins. Great acids and finesse. Cocoa powder and a bittersweet mocha on the finish linger. Spectacular. Such fine tannins and glorious cherry fruit now. BAMA kills in every vintage. After 20 minutes the nose closed as did the palate. I will wait. — 19 days ago

Marquis de Laguiche Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine

The 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru is a little oakier and creamier on the nose than its peers, yet with enormous depth of fruit that crashes over the olfactory senses. But perhaps it needs more delineation? It seems slightly later-picked than its peers, giving off light caramel notes. The palate is medium-bodied and hewn from a richer style of this Grand Cru. Slightly viscous in texture, dense and powerful, it doesn't quite possess the killer clarity and/or mineralité on the finish as the best in the flight. Impressive nonetheless, this is a Montrachet with real heft. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, December 2023)

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Deep, dark blackberry fruit with menthol, graphite, spice, cedar, mineral & tobacco notes. This seems to be fully mature that will hold for many years — 9 days ago

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville

Clos des Ducs Monopole Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1996

1996 vintage. Redonkulous, mid-neck fill and pristine cork (have had 17-20 similarly stored/performing bottles of different producers, varietals, regions from this particular cellar). Decanted with a mix of small chunk and coffee ground sed. Tasted immediately and over the course of two hours. That aged, silvery sheen in the color with a noticeable meniscus. Quiescent nose in the early going and showing. Took approx 30 mins of repeated decanted agitations to coax out a mix of herbs, orange zest/peel and slight beefiness. All this plus some American milk chocolate coalescing in flavor land. Light body. Still going strong after two hours. Likely another 7-10 years of drinking pleasure left from an above average vintage. 12.30.23. — 2 months ago

Clos De La Roilette

Clos de la Roilette Griffe du Marquis Fleurie Gamay 2015

My favorite Cru Beaujolais, a little more weight and darker fruit then the typical Gamay. This drinks like a village level Burg. Layered, complex, med+ tannins and ages well. — a month ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Clos du Marquis Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Needed 3 hours of air to really open up.
Hour 1 was as inaccessible as Kilimanjaro.
Hour 2 was tightly wound and muscular.
Hour 3 was waltzing with raspberry, blackberry, currant, cedar, potting soil, caramel, mushroom, and green stems. Powerful stuff with a mineral backbone. Looking forward to trying on day 2.
