Even better than the crazy-good 2007, the 2015 La Sangre de Jonata is sheer perfection in a glass and up with the finest Syrahs ever made in California! Checking in as a blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier, aged in barrel, its saturated purple color is followed by out of this world aromatics black raspberries, smoked earth, graphite, game, violets and freshly crushed rock-like minerality. — 2 months ago
Smoky!
Want a reason to try some California Sangiovese?
There ya be. As it opens the fruit just seems to erupt- and all the while the smoke just kicks back, feet up, waiting.
Just outstanding. — 11 days ago
A blend of about 50% Syrah, rest Cab Sauv, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, Cab Franc, Sangiovese, Viognier & Merlot. Deep inky Ruby color with complex aromas of dark fruit, spice, almonds and wet earth. On the palate blackberry, currant and raspberry flavors, soft tannins on a long finish ending with leather, pepper, smoke and oak tones. Very Nice, a beauty. — 2 months ago
2021 vintage. Light-medium body but with more stuffing than encountered in the previous 6-7 vintages. Unanticipated frontal-palate richness. Expected, back-end, oomph without massive tannins. Pretty without being precious. Would love to throw this ringer in a Napa and/or BDX tasting. Phenomenal without the cloying weight of the usual suspects. Best Cabernet Sauvignon effort I’ve had from this winery. 01.29.25. — 3 months ago
Tasting the ‘22 vintage. Ballard Canyon’s best. Beautiful Syrah. — a month ago

Quite perky 2022. Not modern style, much more acidity than expected. Rich robust dark fruit. Tight tannins. Really nice. — 2 days ago
