House of Louis Jadot has been producing Burgundy wines since its founding in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. Givry vines are situated around the village of Givry, between Mercurey and Montagny. Ruby with aromas of sweet red fruits and a touch of spice. On the palate rich cherry fruit, tending towards jammy, fresh, savory, good balance. Soft tannins, lingering ending with lively fruit. Nice!

The 2008 ‘Cristal’ Champagne is a magical effort from this storied vintage in Champagne. Roederer cellar master Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon has crafted a simply magnificent wine here. The nose is highly perfumed and very musty with earthy tones showing front and center. White truffle shavings and peat moss with egg yolk infused brioche and bright pear flavors fill this exotic nose. Streamlined throughout, there is a seamless quality to this wine. With racy acidity and a remarkable salinity the wine shines through on the palate delivering a delightful combination of serious weight and effervescence. Saline infused Japanese pear, marzipan, Marcona almond and kumquat flavors all delight the senses. Truly one of the best from this house that I’ve ever sampled, the 2008 ‘Cristal’ needs more time in the bottle to develop — that said, this wine is scintillating in its youth. Tawny and translucent. Nice ripe cherry nose plus notes of rhubarb, earth, cranberry, and some wood. Lots of power in the mouth. Chewy but becomes more approachable with air. Great mouth feel with softened tannins. Still has that 96 acidity tho. With more air the fruit fades and a dry finish emerges. Was good in the first few hours then lost it’s better qualities. — 4 days ago
