2006 Vintage tasted on the 22nd June 2020 - A-Typical slightly oxidised nose with a white wine of this age, on the palate some stone fruits with a woodiness and a honeyed aftertaste not unlike older Chenin Blancs from the Loire or South Africa. Had it with Indonesian styled chicken livers - stood up well to the heat and pure flavour -) — 9 days ago
I know less about Rioja than George Costanza knows about women. But damn, this one is pretty good. End of bin special at Binnys so at $24, this seems like a steal. A real nice weeknight drinker. — 8 hours ago
You have to understand that not many wines ( well, that’s a bit bombastic) give me more pleasure consistently than this, the most recent release-2010! From Calabretta . Kinda like Lopez de Heredia meets Vallana, ie Nebbiolo, though it is Nerollo Macalese. Smoked, tar, roses, fine & integrated tannins on the palate- strong mid palate which in my imagination has gotten stronger with age. Super lithe and really ethereal body- light, light to medium body but gorgeous acid spine, strong presence. Not a light wine. Bought a case or so a while ago-I fear the day I am down to one. We’ve never had a bad bottle of this...luck, I guess. Typical complexity, great after two hours of air...beeswax, honeyed citrus, slight oxidation, faintest hint of petrol...all underpinned by just enough acidity...fabulous with a steak or salmon, in our case. — 12 days ago
2005 vintage. Still fresh and vibrant. Good acidity, medium body, pencil shavings, fresh tobacco, black cherry. — a day ago
Seldom is one presented with a wine for which one has no preconceptions, but this was the case for this 100% Listán Blanco from 100 year old vines grown on volcanic soil above 1000m in Tenerife, which I enjoyed this weekend. I had absolutely no idea what to expect.
Deep golden in colour - with a slight pink hue, in fact - this ‘Benjé Blanco’ by the innovative winemakers Envinate is a unique, rich white that strings a medley of peach, apricot and stone fruits across a grippingly dry, mineral finish. There is a strong oaky character to the nose that reminds me of the white wines of Lopez de Heredia. But this is lighter and has a gracefulness on the palate that carries through to a long, thoroughly satisfying finish, alongside an element of sulphur. Excellent. Will no doubt age well. — 17 days ago
Pretty copper ruby color. Smells like old rioja! But clarified. An airy cherry candy and pink and purple blossom nose. Also, minerals. Palate is packed with intense flavor. It is oxidized, bright, full bodied, fruity and metallic. The energy is electric. Finish is a true progression, like a sherry. This is so delicious! At least 9.5... getting even better with air. — 17 days ago
