So freaking delicious and a steal to boot! Dark red fruits and spice galore with a medium body, med+ intensity, and a long finish. Everything you want in a characterful and soulful southern Rhone red! Across the Rhone river from Chateauneuf grown in galet soils. Vines are 40 years average. Aged in concrete tank for 10-12 month. Organic (certified)

Galet god! — 6 years ago
Little sign of the hallmark carbonic maceration smells of strawberries and cinnamon. In their place are more elegant Burgundian aromatics of cherry licorice, flower gardens mulched with fresh forest compost, and just a wee curl of sandalwood smoke. A sip is structured and dense with sappy wild bramble fruit. If any comparison to Cru Beaujolais is to be made, it has to be to the age-worthy specimens from Morgon and Moulin-à-vent. — 8 years ago
The 2012 Olivier Gras Prat Sura Vacqueyras La Cuvée is certainly more giving on the second day—this structured Vacqueyras wants to unfurl slowly, no surprise, because the vines are around 35 years old, and are grown in an arid climate, and in stony limestone-galet soil. Prat Sura is a single vineyard bottling, and a small one at that, at roughly 1,000 cases total. Tight on opening, but when revisited the second day, it reveals dense, bordering-on-brooding layers of blackberries steeped in fresh thyme, black raspberries and violets. Texturally, there's a lot going on, I feel that it will evolve with a bit of patience. Plum skins and fleshy black fruit at the core, trussed in firm tannins, accentuated by cinnamon bark, creosote and and the merest hint of juniper berries on the finish. Tuck this one into your cellar for five to ten years. 14.5% ABV | Sample — 10 years ago
Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Light on the nose, and medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with nice complexity.
Showing red cherries, currants, plums, light chocolates, coffee, light wood and black pepper.
Nice tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a very tasty 6 years old Grenache blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Elegant and nicely balanced. Complex and interesting.
Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.
The high alcohol is already well integrated. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food.
A blend of 80% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, 5% Mourvedre and 5% Vaccarese, from 50 year old vines. Aged in large French oak barrels for 8 months.
15.5% alcohol by volume.
91 points.

A new vintage - beautiful CDP, balanced and elegant. We decanted, but again this wine is jumping right out. Very nice. — 5 years ago
Our main course wine with Kentucky Bourbon chicken skewers, Rosemary potatoes in smoked olive oil with snap peas & green beans straight out of garden.
The nose reveals, ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, blue fruit heaven, slightly stewed plums, creamy, black raspberries, strawberries on the high nose and glass edges. Sweet tarriness, anise to black licorice, dry stones, crushed, dry rocks, medium, dark spice, savory, grilled meats, underbrush, limestone & sandstone minerals, steeped tea with beautiful florals of dark red, blue and violets.
The body is round, lush and medium full. The tannins are rounded & well resolved with baby teeth. The structure, tension, length and balance are somewhere around the top of the bell curve with another five years of life ahead. It’s gorgeous as it slides over the palate. Ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, blue fruit heaven, slightly stewed plums, creamy, black raspberries, raspberries & strawberries. Mid red cola, sweet tarriness, anise to black licorice, dry stones, crushed, dry rocks, medium, dark spice with just a touch of heat, savory, smoked, grilled meats, dry tobacco, well worn, softened leather, underbrush, limestone & sandstone minerals, steeped tea with beautiful florals fields of dark, red, blue, violets and soft lavender. The acidity is like a warm, river palate dip. The ripe, juicy, elegant, well balanced finish is delicious and persists a few minutes with excellent florals on the long set.

Domain d'Andezon's Côtes du Rhône is crafted from a blend of 40 year-old Syrah vines and 60 year-old Grenache vines grown in the arid and galet-laden Southern Rhône. Unfiltered, it's inky and hunkered with slightly rustic notes of black olive tapenade, dried pen ink, loamy soil overlaid by juicy boysenberries. In the mouth, there is an equal degree of intensity, shored up by dusty tannins and brooding, earthy notes. For $12.99, it's a great value, I've always liked this wine, though admittedly 2013 is not what I'd regard as a top vintage. 14.5% ABV | Sample — 10 years ago
Enjoying watching/drinking this fine thing as it opens/morphs its magic with steak tartare and heirloom radishes @ Sonoma's The Girl & The Fig. Black to red fruit on first blush coating front center and back silk clothes clinging to cool skin slow dancing its way home... Salute — 11 years ago

What I didn’t realize until this week is when I bought this 2013, Sofia & I tasted this with Roger in his cellar before it received the label shown in this post in 2015.
This was $25 on release and it is beautiful tonight as it was last weekend.
Ripe, juicy; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, purple fruits, blueberries & some dark cherries. Grilled meats, light black pepper, dry galet stones, spice, dry top soil, dry tobacco, used leather, slightly moist volcanic mineral mixed w/ clay, sandalwood, dry & withering dark, red & purple florals, rainfall acidity, a well balanced, nicely structured, beautifully tensioned, balanced, elegant finish that last two-minutes and lands on minerality and florals.

God bless......like lavender laced mulberries and raspberries kissed with licorice root, all macerated by round stony CDP "galet roules". Traditional homage clothed playfully. As Jimmy Walker would say......dynomite!!!!! — 11 years ago
