Millésime Brut Champagne Blend 2012

Pale lemon in color.

Nice on the nose, and medium in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing citrus, green apples, light spices, yeast, light brioche, minerals and sea salt.

Long finish with limes and almonds.

This 14 year old Champagne is starting to drink nicely now. Rich and nicely balanced. Tangy and spicy.

Still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years.

I've had a few vintages of this Champagne, and this one seems less approachable at the moment.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food, like fresh seafood.

A blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. Aged for 7 years on the lees.

12% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$100.

Between peppery black fruits and intense mineral notes. Freshness and power. Can age 2 years to develop some aromatic reliefs.

Sankt Laurent 2017

Slight funk on the nose with hints of mushrooms. Leathery with slight acid to finish. Not much tannins so really good with light beef dishes (carpaccio and Tartarus, etc…). Good wine to have for dinner parties. — 5 years ago

La Chambée Condrieu Viognier 2022

This is a balanced, elegant Condrieu. It’s got rich, juice-oozing ripe fruit (only slightly tropical) on the nose, but not in an over-the-top way. There’s also a lightly smoky minerality. Soft and richly flavored in the mouth, but, again, somehow in a balanced way. Acids a little in the low side but heck, it’s Viognier. In a word, elegant. — 13 hours ago

Barrel sample. Denser than usual. Big mama Volnay. Chewy, dense, and loaded with unreal fruit. This has more body and push than I expected, but the village perfume is still there. Hedonistic Volnay with shoulders. — 2 months ago

Les Terrasses du Palat Condrieu Viognier 2017

Needs 30 minutes for the modicum of oak to blow off.

Nose: white flowers. Hint of elegant richness.

Palate: white nectarines. Light for a viognier. As it opens juicy. Almost a silkiness.

Le Grand Vallon Condrieu Viognier 2019

Quartz, granite, loess soils. Fermented in oak with native yeast. 14 months elevage in barrel 25% new 75% 3rd and 5th fill.

Terpene driven florality, sweet apricot, Christmas spices (from oak), wet stone. Mouth filling texture. A beautiful example of Condrieu.

Alexandra Grande Cuvée Rosé Champagne 2012

I was unaware of this cuvée. This is only the 10th time it’s been released since its inauguration in 1982. Lots going on. Upon pouring, the bubbles disappeared quickly. A powerful nose of strawberry, cherries and florals yet I do not feel this was fully open.
In the mouth citrus like acidity. Builds in the mouth but in a restrained way. Very vinous. Creamy texture with layers of red fruit, toast and spice vacationing in your mouth. Deceptively elegant texture .

Reflet Saint Joseph Syrah 2010

Opened just prior to dinner and decanted. The 2010 “Reflet” pours a deep ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with heady notes of dark brambles, spiced cured meat, purple flowers, black pepper, Kalamata olive, dried green herbs, granitic earth, and a kiss of warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is squarely in the zone and fantastic stuff. Drink now through 2035+. — 7 months ago

Very cool. I would have expected a 16-year old St. Joe to be tired. Those 2010 Northern Rhones are aging well, though. Wish I had some left!
