St. Joseph Syrah 2012

Very composed and subtle Syrah from Northern Rhone with some age on it. Burnt red on the eye. Lots of black cherry on the nose, some blood and only a hint of white pepper. The mouthfeel is elegant; full bodied, medium alcohol with powerful black fruit but equally powerful with earth, iron, soft tannings, and a decadent finish. Amazing find. Vigneron: Natasha Chave. If you don’t know who she is, you probably should. — 6 days ago

Hallberg Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

Excellent! Lovely red fruit, and earthy notes with a light touch of vanilla on the finish. No rush to drink and definitely decant or open for a while before drinking. I did a pnp and it noticeably opened up with more air. — 8 days ago

Syrah 2018

Absolutely delicious Syrah. Decanted for 5 hours which was a good call. Very deep red verging on purple in the glass. A ton of beautiful dark red fruit, some olives, some meat, but mostly just deep dark fruit. After the decant the tannins are really very seamless. Very nice acid on the finish. Absolutely perfect with a beautiful rack of lamb for Easter dinner. — 13 days ago

Lou Taissou Saint Joseph Syrah 2018

From granitic soils, minimal sulfur. 60% whole cluster then Spanish amphora for 15 months. Closed at first then the fruit emerges with a long berry finish. — 6 days ago

Sainte-Épine Saint-Joseph Syrah 2018

Young, but great upside potential. Old vine Marsanne from the lieu-dit Aubert, east of the Sainte Epine vineyard. One of the original St Joseph appellation parcels, tended by Trollat for decades according to the spec sheet. Delightful. — 21 days ago

My bottle was tight as well. But this was NUTS out of barrel. I have faith it will blossom.

Domaine Bernard Gripa

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2015

Nose is graphite.

Palate - silky texture. Graphite blended with blackberry.

Let’s see how this develops.

As this opens it’s definitely a graphite blackberry melange kind of thing. Good grip. Quite focused. Cerebral in a sense. Like this silky almost lilac extract on the palate.

If I had this blind I’d guess st jo on the nose and cote rotie on the palate.

Offerus Saint-Joseph Syrah 2016

2021/3. Red and blue fruit, but also powdery and compacted - even a relatively “straightforward” St. Joseph like this probably needs more time to come together — 7 days ago
