Jacques Bourguignon

Domaine Armand Rousseau

Clos St. Jacques Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2004

Clos Saint‑Jacques is often hailed as the “Musigny” of Gevrey‑Chambertin. It combines the signature power and structure of Gevrey with the elegance and finesse of Vosne‑Romanée, and Armand Rousseau’s bottling has always been remarkably consistent.

2004 was a challenging vintage—a weak year in which many grapes failed to reach full ripeness. Now that it has entered its drinking window, it opens up quite nicely. This is not a flamboyant style; instead, it leans more toward herbaceous notes and bay leaf, with hints of florals and red cherry. It has a mineral quality, yet without the saline or briny character often found in other Gevrey vineyards. The acidity is well‑balanced. The overall bouquet is delicately fresh, reserved rather than exuberant, yet persistent, and it doesn’t evolve dramatically over time.

Oxidized, nutty, complex and electric, with incredible acidity and a hint of VA. Long, profound and totally singular. Puffeney is the master, and this shows exactly why. — 2 months ago

Les Combettes Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2015

Medium lemon colour. On the nose this is quite mineral and expressive at first , taught lemon peel and some oyster shell , touch herbal , orange . With time this becomes more fruit driven , with lots of ripe citrus . Quite rich and ample on the palate with lemon richness and some grapefruit , with a touch of butter , just a touch of chalk dust to balance , creamy mouthfeel. Balanced but not particularly fresh acidity . Good length , quite rounded and generous in style . Still quite young but drinking well from now and over the next 5 or so years . — 4 months ago

Few bubbles in the glass. Bruised golden apple, golden pear, slightly reductive / sherry-like. Reminded me a lot of the Peter Lauer 1987 Riesling sekt, but with fewer bubbles. An interesting but not crowd-pleasing Champagne. @ Persona, Stockholm — 3 months ago

Hommage à Jacques Perrin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2005

Popped and poured; enjoyed alongside Texas BBQ on the plane home. The 2005 “Hommage a Jacques Perrin” pours a deep purple with a ruby rim; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with mostly dark fruits: mixed brambles, black cherry, animale, star anise and black pepper, garrigue and stony earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This continues to be ever so dense but paired admirably with the BBQ. Drink now through 2055. — 4 months ago

Lots of cranberry, tang and snap, with a really good creamy mouthfeel. Elegant but not polite, carrying that classic Poulsard back-alley punk rock energy. Light on its feet, bright, savory and full of character. — 2 months ago
