At a bar in Porto. Yum. — 7 months ago
2016 vintage. Last tasted 02.07.24 (9.4). Still medium-heavy body but the alcohol/flavors enduring a bit of angst currently. Hot alcohol hits front palate, then fruit, then 18-wheeler tannins. Tasting as if it fell apart and needs a magic wand to meld it all back together. Still, fairly impressive tasting the holy trinity simultaneously, yet separately, and with unexpected composure given the lack of quality pavement for this 1974 De Tomaso Pantera. 01.20.25. — a year ago
Light, high mineral content, dash of grapefruit, pairs well with shellfish. — 4 years ago

I know the history of Trump Winery. All politics aside- for this review only, if you please- what Trump has done with this incredible property and the caliber facility that it has truly become- is a story into itself. The 2017 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon ($25 from the tasting room) is the perfect style of red to enjoy with all kinds of fare. Winning a Gold medal at the Virginia Governor’s Cup- is actually quite the deal. In truth, it’s hopped into contention for my “vanishing middle class’s Cheeseburger Wine of the Year”- which is fairly less prestigious as the aforementioned, Virginia Governor’s Cup. It’s a simple delight with just enough stricture to hold up to all kinds of cuisine. From a deep garnet color the nose evolves and grows from simple notes of currant and blackberries into deeper, fuller expressions of those flavors. Medium-full bodied on the palate, earthy elements begin to emerge and frame flavors of blackberry, stewed cherries and a whisper of smoke. I’m blown away by its elegance and simplicity. Winemaker Jonathan Wheeler is most definitely someone to watch, and deserves a hand foe crafting this delightful, easy-drinking Virginia Cabernet. — 6 years ago
My first wheeler farms wine
Had never heard of this winery until we visited TOR in Napa in 2023 and wheeler farms is their de facto winery
Started off a bit tight and then opened up and was solid fruit with smooth delivery about 1 hour in. Shut back down and went darker at hour 3. Good wine but expected more

A young wine, that will only get better. It’s big and bold, big ripe red and black fruit. Big chewy tannins that have softened up a bit but are still bold. Solid acidity, gonna age well. Also getting licorice, pencil shavings. Very good, will save the rest for a few years down the road. — 9 months ago
This is the ‘17 JH Wheeler Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard. First bottle of this wine. Blown away. Nose is of blackberry pie. Loads of black and blue fruit, ripe me juicy, supple soft tannins that give a superb mouthfeel. Rich creamy feel. Nice long finish of crème de cassis. Fantastic! Especially for a ‘17. — 2 years ago
Crisp and a little mineral but also well rounded — 3 years ago
Beautiful light brick-brown colour with pink reflections. First nose evolved on dried fruits, nuts, apricots, then notes evoking maple syrup, peach syrup, hazelnut. Light, creamy, deep, paradoxical fine as great wines know how to make us experience it. Remanent finish, to be tasted certainly once in a lifetime when you can as an aperitif, such as on desserts based on nuts, chocolate, apricots, or with a camembert with raw milk. Serve a little refreshed.
— 4 years ago

Mad love for this wine here @ Delfina Pizzeria. Central Coast La Cienega Valley Sagrantino - wow! — 5 months ago
It’s been a year and half since my last bottle. This wine just speaks to me, always has. Blueberry compote nose. Blueberry pie, blackberry, ripe fruit, fantastic mouthfeel. So easy. So glad I bought a case and a half years ago, wish I had got more. Perhaps drinking better now than ever. Wish they still made this cuvée. — 8 months ago
