Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2012

From magnum. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2012 pours a garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with punchy notes of Morello cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, orange rind, red flowers, and a mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and the texture is almost chewy. The 2012 is still an awesome value; really tasty stuff. Drink now through 2042. — 19 days ago

Midwinter Nights Dram Blend of Straight Rye Whiskeys 2025

I've bought this for the past 4 years, and this bottling is the most fruit forward. Candied fruit- apricots, cherries, and dates. The price has gotten out of hand, but it's yummy!

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2011

Our (not so) little (anymore) princess her birthday so time for our yearly 2011. After having rated two previous bottles not as high as you would expect this one actually delivered. Very elegant, in balance and clearly at peak. Quite some years ahead — 6 months ago

Horsepower Vineyards

Sur Echalas Vineyard Grenache 2013

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish /brick rim.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Very dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing red and black fruits with light wood, spices, barnyard, blood, dried meats, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, earth, herbs, peppercorn and licorice.

Nice finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This Single Vineyard Grenache from Walla Walla Valley is very stinky and austere on the nose.

Complex and very interesting, but not what I expected at all. Feels more like an old world wine.

Wine Advocate 95 points. Wine Spectator 94 points. Wine Enthusiasts 94 points.

I had a recent vintage a couple of years ago and it showed much better. Might just be this particular bottle, or it could be past its prime by now.

A good quality wine and still very drinkable.

13.2% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

High Valley - Lake County Zinfandel 2020

This is excellent Zin. Has plenty of pluck and zip 6 years in. A hint savory and plenty of acid. Thick with a spiced and smoked fruits side. Very tasty bottle of Lake County Zin. Cool climate-ish even with 14.5% ABV. GREAT DEAL at G.O. too. — a month ago

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2023

Drinking this pre-release bottle of this iconic wine from Bordeaux.

Light gold in color.

Strong nose and Full-bodied.

Sweet on the palate with high acidity to balance the sugars.

Showing melons, tropical fruits, apples, light earth, guava, herbs, spices, papaya and honey notes.

Long finish with herbs and tropical fruits.

This is a gorgeous sweet wine from Bordeaux. Sexy, seductive and fresh. Creamy and buttery.

Showing great potential, but oh so young. Already delicious and complex. Round, opulent and powerful.

Loved the nose once it opened up (20 minutes in the glass).

Rich and extracted. Fruit forward and intense, yet elegant. Well balanced with a soft mouthfeel.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. Drunk from a Magnum.

High Sands McLaren Vale Grenache 2016

A highly awarded Grenache from McLaren Vale made by the talented Peter Fraser. Sweet red earthy fruits but not overly raspberry as Aussie Grenache often is. Has a lovely sweet smooth texture. James Halliday awarded this wine his Wine of the Year in 2020 and 99 points. Vines planted in 1946 in ancient sandy soils ideal for this Grenache. If not Australia’s best Grenache then certainly in the conversation. The main reason we drank this wine a few days ago was to remember Peter Fraser who sadly passed away unexpectedly in a tragic house fire. — 7 months ago
