Heritage Oak

Silver Oak

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Blend of 78% Cab Sauv, 12% Merlot, 7% Cab Franc, 2% Petit Verdot & 1% Malbec, deep Ruby red, concentrated youthful aromas of ripe black fruit, subtle nutty spice & creamy chocolate. Aged 24 months, 85% new & 15% 1-year used American oak. On the palate fresh fruit flavors of sweet plum, black cherry & dried blackberries, with bits of oak & cacao trying to peek through. Tannins are present, but just a tad persistent, reflecting its youth. Long & elegant finish with vanilla & slight mineral tang. Drinks well now, continue to develop over the next 15-20 years, why wait it’s perfect now! Outstanding! Tasting Sample! — 17 hours ago

Animo Napa Valley Heritage Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Easy drinking low acidity Sauv Blanc from Napa. Good citrus notes and a floral quality give freshness while pitted fruit gives depth. Very tasty. — a month ago

HãLo Oak Knoll District Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Really special wine. Tannins are in check but full-great acidity and, round, ripe dark huckleberry and raspberry fruit. Medium finish that will definitely do well to age a bit but is accessible now. — 18 days ago

Oak Knoll District Chardonnay 2015

Lemon / hazelnut medium Acid & medium bodied clean and well made ( got this at a discount store for $5.99) spice, toasty oak in the background . 2015 on the vintage (so 4 years old as I’m drinking it ) well worth it ! — 12 days ago

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1992

Enjoyed trying this after the ‘91 Montelena. Similarities and differences. Picked up signature American oak here with notes of herbs and dill, but not as much of the coconut smell I normally get (maybe that fades with age?). Focused. Leather, baked black cherry pie, muddled rhubarb, bayleaf. Soft and round with very nice depth. Lingering finish. I thought this outdid the ‘85 it was next to quite easily (though that bottle may have been flawed). — 20 days ago

@Matt Duncan : This was a standout and an impressive showing. The ‘85 was also the Alexander Valley but something just seemed off...wasn’t corked, and it certainly wasn’t bad, just seemed off/tired. Bummer.

Was your ‘85 Alex bottle one we recorked at the winery? Should have a little sticker on the back if so.

@Matt Duncan : Just checked...didn’t see a sticker. Just the label on the back.

Erna Schein Moulds Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

From the damned vintage comes another good wine. Is this as full-bodied as the 09 or 10? No. Notes on this wine are black cherry, rhubarb, mint on the nose and just about the same on the entry. Gains a floral note in the middle. Finishes with black cherry and white flowers. Rounded character but acidity is quite present. Tannin are a bit sweet, slightly astringent but doesn't really take away from this wine. If anything it adds a bit of mystery. This was a Coravin glass and a half today, with the remainder likely going down tomorrow. I'd say this is probably just about the time to start drinking on these if you have a few. — 18 days ago

Oak Knoll District Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Tasty. Lots of those dark fruit flavors of which I am so fond. Vanilla, black cherry, blackberry, then some spicy raspberry on the finish. A nice little cab to pair with early morning Bucs football from London. Plus, it's a hell of a lot cheaper drinking this on my couch than last weekend at Food & Wine at Epcot. — 6 days ago
