Cheers to my 6,000th review on Vivino. A Big milestone deserves a big wine. This was on my wishlist for a while now. Go big or go home!

Deep inky in color with a short brick rim. Unbelievable. Not showing age at all.

Fruity nose of blackberries, blueberries, black currants, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, leather, earth, Mediterranean spices, beef jerky, peppercorn, cedar, leather, vanilla and licorice.

Full bodied, bold, smooth and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, sweet plums, vanilla, cedar, light vegetables, spices, smoke, tobacco, chocolates, coffee, cola, pencil lead and peppercorn.

Long finish with firm tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon based, Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley. Showing great complexity and a great mouthfeel. Big with bold tannins. Delicious and yummy.

This 19 year old is drinking very nicely now, and really shows like a young wine. Has at least 15 years in it.

After 3 hours of airtime, forest floor notes come in on the nose. Tasting like an aged left bank Bordeaux.

Wine Advocate 100 points.

This is a Fabulous wine to share with good friends. Very enjoyable by itself or with food. I paired it with BBQ ribs.

Had this with friends for a birthday.
Tasting the wine solo it was very juicy, balanced tannins and slightly acidic with flavors of dark cherries, mocha and cinnamon.
After a bite of roasted lamb this wine was georgeous! It glided across the tongue with the fat of the lamb and all the lovely dark fruit flavors came forward and the acid integrated perfectly making it soft and supple.

Had friends over for lunch on Saturday and had a match off with this 1997 Dominus with a 1997 Wynns John Riddoch - both from magnum. This Dominus I first tried at TriBeCa Grill in New York about 8 years ago and it was a wow wine for me. In fact the best Cabernet I had ever had outside of Bordeaux. No detailed notes but this was more savoury and less fruit driven than I remember. The consensus around the table was in favour of the Riddoch with me as the sole vote for the Dominus. Okay my friends. I have finally released my own wine! This rating is for Dr Todd Vineyards cabernet sauvignon from Herron Family Wines. I had to put Papillon in the pic to get this spot. Ive been working on this since 2014!!!!! It is finally ready. Of coarse it is opaque in color. The legs are thick and slow to fall. The bouquet is my favorite blackberry pie fresh out of the oven with a hint of black licorice. The initial palate is exploding with dark fruit: blackberry, black current, dark cherries. The mid palate is exactly what I hoped for, chocolate and spice with a splash of oak! The finish is very long with minimal tannins and moderate dryness. I am very proud if this wine. I want to thank my growers in NAPA. I blended two vines of 100% cabernet , one from Oakville and one from the Silverado trail area near lake Hennessey. We aged it three years in American Oak. I am so proud of my team!!!!! Thank you my Herron Family Wine Crew! This is an awesome cabernet sauvignon. Next is a pinot noir... stay tuned... — 7 years ago

A lovely bottle of classic Lafite Rothschild. Ordered with old friends and new at Waldhaus Sils on the fourth anniversary of my father’s death. He was biased to Cabernet Sauvignon / Left Bank Blends, and appreciated his Lafite, even if he stopped buying them as prices got out of hand. 1995 was chosen in honor of the year that I met my friend Julian, with whom I have worked at two companies across 20+ years and now count as a dear friend and peer in our industry. The bottle was in great shape, likely bought en primeur and stored in the Alpine retreat’s cellars (tour tomorrow!). Oscar, the manager and sommelier has been at the Waldhaus for 32 years, so it was purchased in his early days. The tannins were very well integrated, with some dark fruits, delicious tobacco and cedar, and a long finish. — 3 years ago

What was meant to be a casual dinner with friends over homemade BLTs ended up turning into a full-blown wine dinner.

Eager to see how this develops over the years. As it stands now it’s syrupy with cloves, figs, molasses, and is pretty extracted. I think the potential is there but it’s going to take some time for it to mature and formulate. — 7 years ago
