Donnachiara – Greco di Tufo – 2021
Greco di Tufo DOCG – Campania – Italy 🇮🇹
Overview
A more expressive and intense take on Greco di Tufo from the 2021 vintage, showcasing the varietal’s natural structure, depth, and aging potential. This DOCG-level wine leans into richness and tension, delivering a more evolved and character-driven profile.
Aromas & Flavors
Layered and pronounced with ripe stone fruit, citrus peel, and hints of almond and dried herbs. Subtle smoky and mineral nuances reflect the volcanic soils, now slightly more integrated with time.
Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied with elevated tension and a textured, almost grippy feel. Bright acidity keeps it lifted, while the added bottle age brings a more rounded, cohesive structure and a long, persistent finish.
Food Pairings
Grilled seafood, roasted chicken, shellfish, creamy pasta dishes, or aged cheeses. Also great with richer Mediterranean flavors.
Verdict
A bold and character-driven Greco di Tufo, expressive, complex, and structured. The 2021 vintage adds a layer of integration and depth, making it both serious and highly rewarding.
Did You Know?
Greco di Tufo is one of Southern Italy’s few white DOCGs and is known for its ability to age, developing nutty, honeyed, and mineral complexity over time.
🍷 Personal Pick
This is my “textured white with presence”, when I want something layered, slightly evolved, and far from simple. Cheers! — 4 months ago
Apricot and other orchard fruits. Luscious, fuller bodied, gorgeous. — 5 months ago
Deep, dark ruby coloration. On the nose, cocoa powder, spice, prune, cherry, oak and wine cave. On the palate, medium to full body, cherry, strawberry, leather, chocolate and a long finish dominated by chocolate notes. Still exhibiting strong tannins. — 6 months ago
Glass of wine at A Fiori. Very pleasant. I enjoyed this a lot. [Can’t stop thinking about it (10), definitely will look for it to buy again (9), nothing wrong with it would buy again (8), finished it but would not buy again (7), could not even finish it (6)] — 7 days ago
Great bouquet-needed airing for 30 minutes to reveal itself — a month ago
Superb. Not sure worth the price ($75) but excellent. — 3 months ago
Very nice dry white, full body, some complexity, great with seafood. — 4 months ago
Pungent, interesting wine. Crushed flowers, overly ripe plum, sour cherries, ripe raspberries, maybe bark. Astringent. Serious wine. Open this way in advance. — 5 months ago
Big wine, with interesting flavors. Paired well with cheese. — 5 months ago
An exceptional aglianico that was a perfect pairing with a tasting menu of Tuscan and Roman food. A little VA - but not in a distracting way! — 7 months ago
Amazing white wine bought directly at the vineyard Planeta. First experience with the Fiano variety. Can be served cold or at room temperature. Room temperature (18°) allows you to appreciate it fully. — 2 months ago
Surprising and unique. Much more earthy than other Taurasis I’ve tried. I think I like it. But also not sure. Need to try again. About $60. — 3 months ago
New-mown hay, blackberry brambles on the nose. Intensely fruit forward, but not sweet or cloying. Raspberries and blackberries. Light tannic structure, with mint and back pepper low notes, but it develops a pleasing minerality on its surprisingly long finish. I don’t know anything about this vintage, but it seems like it was grown on volcanic soils. The front reminds me of a Beaujolais Nouveau, but the finish is much more complex. A unique profile combination that I’ve never tasted before. Lovely. — 4 months ago
Medium acidity, apple on the nose, stone fruit, maybe some tropical and honeyed notes on the palate. — 4 months ago
so smoooth, so mouth coating, so rich. mmmmm — 5 months ago
Fully mature aglianico. — 7 months ago
Pale lemon in colour. From Campania arguably the home of Fiano not forgetting it is also grown in Sicily. Restrained aromas of pear, honeysuckle and apple. Those descriptors coming through on the medium bodied palate finishing dry with stacks of salinity. Refreshing and moreish. Had my last bottle 34 weeks later on 28th June 2026. Lime, acacia and thyme aromas. On the medium bodied palate appley flavours. From its spiritual home of Campania. A good winter white. — 10 months ago

Bright yellow color. Aromas of green orchard, citrus and tropical fruits with hints of white flowers, fresh herbs and wet gravel. Flavors of ripe pear, melon, lemon/lime/orange/grapefruit and peach fruit with additional notes of salted roasted nuts. Pleasant touch of mineral on the long lasting finish. Medium bodied with medium-minus acidity. Crisp and rich enough. Better as a porch sipping option. — 14 days ago
