Case Basse di Gianfranco Soldera

Case Basse Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2009

A bodacious nose that is a mixture of red and black fruit. A little more weight on the palate than what I have encountered with Soldera. .Tons of fruit and energy take control. — 7 days ago

Case Vecie Amarone della Valpolicella Corvina Blend 2016

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. Sourced from a single vineyard in Grezzana, the 2016 Case Vecie pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and dried red, black and blue fruits: Bing cherry, Craisins, pomegranate, Fig Newtons, red flowers, fine cocoa, espresso, gentle warm spices and a mix of organic and inorganic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. The alcohol is high. However, it’s remarkably balanced considering its extraordinary ABV, 16.5%!! That being said, you would hardly know it…until it got you turnt! For real though, I don’t drink a lot of Amarone…but this is damned good. Drink now through 2041. — a month ago

9.5

Outrageous nose of peach, apricot, flowers galore and so perfumed. Elite hand lotion. Yes! Citrus, green tomato and honey. Certifiable freak show. Just glorious. Unreal palate. Such cut and precision and killer acids. Inner mouth florals are stunning and the balance is off the charts. Amazing purity and clarity. I love how the sugars just adds textures and roundness. Brilliant and rocking now but will age 30+. — 8 days ago

“Elite hand lotion”, lol

Weingut Bründlmayer

Alte Reben Grüner Veltliner

The only one on a good horizontal lineup that I wouldn’t pick blind , but good. Leaning into Chablis territory with leesy creaminess and maybe some oak, but still has a pleasant rounded herbal nose (artichoke, succulents) and comes together in a pleasantly balanced, rounded tone — a month ago

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 1998

Mini vertical ‘98, ‘06, ‘09. This was my favorite. Wonderful aromas of licorice, leather, plums and black cherry are all replicated on the palate. Except for the color, a red core and a brick rim one would be hard pressed to guess its age — 19 days ago

THE Brunello. Full stop.
It is hard to explain the tactile experience of this wine. Once you have Soldera you can truly understand all the fuss about Brunello di Montalcino i reckon.
No others producers are close to his level, some have taken the same direction, but it is a long way to catch up.
