Las Brisas Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021

The oak really stands out in this one. On one hand I think 'Too much what are you trying to hide or make up for?' and on the other hand I think 'This was daring but it worked!'.
Let me put it another way: It's too much oak for me to enjoy the bottle but it's a wood punch that makes me enjoy the glass over many other Pinot's I've had recently.
As they used to say in elementary school 'You get an E for effort'

Château Malescot St. Exupéry

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Received all these Bordeaux futures I had ordered a few years ago this week, so I thought I better get with it. This 8 year old Bordeaux blend from the Margaux area was great. All this nice deep dark dusty earth flavors transported me to the dungeons where they probably stored the wine …. at least in my imagination 😋. We drank it too quick as it kept evolving and expressing itself more and more as time progressed. Paired great with now our favorite Havarti cheese from Denmark (really hard to admit for a Dutchman as we all pledged the allegiance to Gouda cheese at elementary school). Cheers! — 2 years ago

Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet (Hervé Souhaut)

"Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet" Vin de Pays de l'Ardèche Blanc Viognier Roussanne

Golden colour in the glass. Tropical fruit nose of pineapple, banana, wet stone, vanilla, oak, toasted nuts. Palate confirms this with pineapple/banana notes, medium acidity, long finish. Overall, beautiful rich white, taste almost reminds me of a fruit cup you'd eat in elementary school... in a good way! — 4 years ago

Contra Costa County Petite Sirah 2020

Very high pigment in there. Dark purple/black. Smells heady and dense. Earthy with a hint of blackberry pie crossed with winery. Flavors are classic for Petite Sirah. Licorice or the black and ‘grape’ type. (There were these 3ft ropes flavored grape at my elementary school). Bit of smoke too. More fruit than funk style though. This is a great affordable Petite from a cool locale. I’d recommend it if you like big reds (and can find it). — 10 months ago

Library Collection Volum II Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Vacation bottle from trip to Lac Vieux Desert last week. I don’t remember all the nuances, but it was very good. — 2 years ago

Bodegas Caro (Barons de Rothschild / Catena)

Caro Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec 2010

Excellent wine, perfectly aged - and a great way to celebrate my boy’s elementary school graduation with his birth year wine. (He didn’t partake, fwiw) — 3 years ago

Partida Creus

Vinel.lo Garnatxa Blanca Blend

Acidic. Floral on the nose and front palate. Minty grapefruit, tropical fruits. Like those tropical Starbursts candies I used in a class presentation in elementary school as “the food of my imaginary land.” — 5 years ago

California Cabernet Sauvignon

WHOA. Melted butter and elementary school pencil box on the nose. Taste of butter, mocha and spices. This is THE most interesting cab sav I’ve had to date and I’m thrilled about it. — 2 years ago

Herradura

Reposado Tequila

Beautifully complex. The nose reminds me oddly of aromas from elementary school: pencil eraser, chalk dust, perhaps even pencil lead, plus some sour dill pickle. The taste is intensely vegetal: the same dill pickle comes through with tomatillo and other green flavors, ending with a peppery finish. — 2 years ago

Terrassous

Rivesaltes Ambré Hors d'Âge 6 Ans Vin Doux Naturel Grenache Blend

At risk of sounding weird, which obvi I’m gonna take because I am weird, this wine feels like an after school snack. So much golden raisins, dried orange peel and graham cracker. In elementary school I always hated golden raisins and got embarrassed in I ended up with raisins of any sort in my lunch because it seemed to scream NERD (and my friend Eliza told me they reminded her of cockroaches). Well F*#k peer pressure to be cool, which includes both snacking on dried fruits and adoring sweet wine. It’s not unctuous but is rich but not cloying. It does have those dried fruit and graham cracker after school notes plus some citrus and mayhaps there’s even a hazelnut and acacia blossom nearby? Pairs with mincemeat pie. — 3 years ago
